Citizens Corner:  Citizens united against GBV and Femicide

View descriptionShare

The problem of gender-based violence and femicide seems to be getting worse. Judging from news reports, in a space of two months we've heard about so many gruesome murders of women. Just this past Monday a young woman from Mpumalanga who was set alight by her boyfriend succomed to her injuries.  In July, well-known daughter of Dr Letlape was found dead in her home, her boyfriend was arrested.  Still in July, Didi Lekganyane, a young bright scientist who had just been named as one of the M&G 200 Young South Africans was stabbed to death by her partner. This year marks five years since the brutal killing of for UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana who was also brutally killed by a post office employee and the list goes on. So this morning we thought to look at how we as members of various communities can stand up against this scourge? What can we actively do to unite and stop this evil madness?
