These past few months we've seen a lot of violence again from the taxi industry, either killing each other or e-hailing drivers. The news of the killing of Siyanda Mvelase at the Maponya Mall in Soweto saw Soweto residents take the law into their hands by burning a minibus taxi. Last week five people were killed in the Western Cape while nine were injured in taxi-related violence. As South Africans we know that this is nothing new and a very common occurrence in this industry. So this morning we thought to speak to academics who have done studies on this industry to find out where they believe the problem lies and where this nature of violence comes from.
