Africa Unlocked: Blinken in Africa

View descriptionShare

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken has embarked on a five nation tour of the developing world. In this tour, Blinken will visit South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. This is Blinken’s second trip to Africa since November 2021 where he visited Nigeria, Kenya and Senegal.

The purpose of the visit is to reset its continental diplomatic relations and will cover the following priorities: democracy, investment, security, Covid recovery support and clean energy. Blinken has assured that Washington will not dictate their bilateral relations with the continent and has called for other nations to do the same. This visit is taking place hot on the heels of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
