As we enter 2026 which is an election year for local government, political parties are gearing up to woo voters. However it's not going to be an easy road for them as they are still facing a huge problem of voter apathy. Just this past weekend, President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged that communities are disgruntled over issues of service delivery and vowed to take action. The IEC has already raised concerns at the continued in voter participation. False promises from politicians are not helping either. Based on the actions of political parties, is the electorate justified in not participating in local government electoral processes? What responsibility do political parties have beyond constituencies to rebuild trust and deliver on services?
