And of course, please don't forget to get a copy of my New York Times best selling book, Straight Shooter, a Memoir of Second Chances and First Takes, now in paperback. Just go to straight Shooter book dot Com. Once again, that straight Shooter book dot Com. To get yourself a copy. You ain't got to wait to tell Christmas is right there for you. It's right there for you. Ain't damned sports book either. It's a book about Moa, about Ma now the state. If nobody in Dallas wants to buy my book, that would make sense.

I understand.

If a Cowboy fan don't want to buy my book, that would make sense because watching me yesterday, just laugh at you. I mean, listen, the Dallas cow was the gift that keeps on giving. So the New Orleans Saints rolls in the town. And I understand they had a bye week in week one. I mean they technically played the game, but the Carolina Panthers are bye week and we all know that. And I'll get into y in just a minute about the Carolina Panthers. But they blew out the Carolina Panthers forty seven to ten in Week one, and then they showed up.

They showed up a rah yesterday.

I'm talking about the New Orleans Saints in Dallas, Dixas Arlington, to be exact, Jerry World at and T Stadium, that billion dollar playpit, whatever words you want to use to describe it, and they ran rough shot over the Dallas Cowboys forty four to nineteen.

Do you know that.

The New Orleans Saints scored a touchdown on their first six drives of the game. Do you know that one was for eighty, another was for seventy, and another for seventy, and another for seventy, and then one was for twenty, and then another one was sixty nine yards?

Did you know that? Did you know? Did you know that.

Alvin Kamara had four touchdowns yesterday by his damn self. Did you know that they had Dereck car out there looking like Joe Montana? Did you know that the Dallas Cowboys have basically revealed that they can't stop the damn run. This is what you saw in their open up. Now, Dak Prescott won twenty for thirty nine, throwing for nearly three hundred yards with one touchdowns to two interceptions, And I'm not gonna even hold the interceptions against them because they were bleeding. He was trying to stop the hemorrhagy, trying to make something happen that happens, But in the end he wasn't the reason the Cowboys lost yesterday. Their defense was non existent. I never heard of Alice, Texas. I never knew one existed. But that's what we're gonna call it now. From now on, we gonna call him the Alice Cowboys because take the D out of Dallas. Don't even call them that. There is no defense right now. They got blitzed. Michael Passa's had three pressures and you know that's my brother. I got love for him. But they couldn't do anything yesterday. And what it's revealed is that anybody that's got a running game can beat the Dallas Cowboys, who, by the way, have the Baltimore Ravens next week, who are oh and two. Good luck with that one. You got Derek Henry come into town and you got a and you got the Baltimore Ravens at oh and two. We know we don't expect that to last. And so it's one of those situations where Dallas got some problems.

Ain't nowhere around it.

And once again you switched from Quinn, who took the head coaching job in the nation's capitol with the Washington Commanders, you brought in former Minnesota Viker's head coach Mike Zimmergs your defensive coordinator. Nobody expected you to look like that, especially the way you played against Cleveland the week before. But that's what Dallas does. And so in the end, you don't have the personnel. You got speed, you got athletes. What you don't have, as my man dan Orlowski, in my day job said, you don't have a spling.

You had a spa.

You understand saying, because you can run right down the middle of the Dallas Cowboys, they ain't what they used to be. A matter of fact, they look worse based off of yesterday than they did all the last season. I mean, I know they got to ask kicked by San Francisco last season during the regular season. I'd expect them to get to ask kick the way that they did yesterday by the New Orleans Saints.

But that's what happened somewhere along the way.

We're gonna have to talk about New Orleans at some point because we can't ignore the.

Fact that with Olive.

And Shaheed and Alvin Kamara and Derek Carr and those boys, they can actually play. Their defense ain't shabby either. They can make some noise, but it seems like anybody who can run the football can beat Dallas, and so somehow, someway, you're gonna have to fix that.

You really really are good luck.

With it, because I don't know how they gonna do it. I'm gonna talk to my mayor, Chris Carter about that a little bit later on.

In the show.

But listen, you got Dallas that was problematic. You got the Baltimore Ravens falling and two that's problematic. You got the Bengals at and two right now, I think that's less of a problem. In five of the last six seasons. They started off ohing to with Zach Taylor. It's nothing new, okay. And then I gotta look at some of the surprises. I look at Tampa Bay beating Detroit. Baker Mayfield, y'all, he's bawling. He's a top ten quarterback right now. Detroit, you had a tough one in Week one, but you won. You lost yesterday? Are you what you used to be?

Don't know?

Looking at Minnesota to and Oho with Sam Donald to the quarterback throwing up football one hundred and twenty seven and a half yards in the air with a damn one hundred yard bomb now justin Jefferson before he ended up getting injured, and I watched then beat the San Francisco forty nine ers. So is that really about Sam Donald Minnesota? Is that about brock Party and the forty nine ers and what they ain't? I don't know about that. Third upset happened because Detroit yesterday were Baker Mayfield led the Bucks to a twenty sixteen victory over the Lions.

Detroit lost, by the way, despite putting up more than four hundred and sixty yards of total offense.

Another upset that took place, as I pointed out, with the Rams going down to Arizona forty one to ten on the road. The Cardinals put up nearly five hundred yards total offense at home. Rookie Marvin Harbinson Junior had a breakout game yesterday with two touchdowns and one hundred and thirty yards.

Remember this is just this is just.

A week after he had one reception for four yards and Kyler Murray came out there talking about the name of.

My job to give him the damn ball. I was like, what the hell is up with that?

If I'm and I went out already, But then he came out and through that damn boy the football first quarter handled his business. That young man Marvin Averson is something special, sad news here before I.

Get to my man Chris Carter.

That involves Bryce Young, quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, number one overall pick twenty twenty three NFL Draft. According to the NFL Network, he has been benched ladies and gentlemen in two games this year. They've been outscored forty seven to ten and twenty six to three. That's seventy three to thirteen. Do you know what Bryce Young's numbers are? He's completed fifty five percent of his passes.

Not great.

He's thrown for two hundred and forty five total yards in two games, zero touchdowns, three interceptions, and yesterday against the Chargers, he had a quarterback rating.

Of eight point nine.

Their leading receiver was running back Toba Hubbard. He had four receptions for twelve yards. That was their leading receiver. He was throwing incomplete passes because he couldn't reach the first down markers. He was literally seen jumping while throwing so he could see over oncoming defensive defensive players. Why do I bring that up, because as much as I love him, when he started Alabama and he was an absolute stud and won the twenty twenty one Heisman Trophy Award before he got drafted. Ladies and gentlemen, here is what I was saying after meeting Bryce Young at the Super Bowl in Arizona. Listen to what I said back then.

This kid is sensational.

I met him on Super Bowl Sunday, Coach, I couldn't believe how small he was. I'm very concerned about it. I'm not concerned about a skill set. I'm concerned about him being able to withstand the punishment that NFL players ultimately have to endure.

I don't think it's an issue. I think you have to look at each individual player. This guy plays quarterback like a point guard in basketball. He knows where everybody is. He can extend plays. He creates throwing lanes for himself, which is important for a guy his size. He can make all the throws. He's smart. He has a lot of the attributes from a psychological disposition standpoint that are necessary to excel at disposition.

Sorry, I was right, Rice Young. It ain't about a skill set. It's about his size, his lack of physical prowess.

On the NFL level, when you're going up against grown ass men. And why does that matter because it has been announced, as I just talked about from the NFL network, that he is being benched, Ladies and gentleman.

A second overall pick with CJ. Strid.

We all know what the stud he is. And by the way, I think Caleb Williams Chicago's gonna be a stud. I know he lost to Houston last night, but I like Caleb Williams okay. And he was getting slaughtered by Houston's defense, one hit after another after another. The abuse he was subjected to, I was like, damn, But he's big enough.

To take it and still had some nice throws.

I believe in the brother. I'm not so certain I can say that about Bryce Young anymore. He's just too small. He's just too small. I usually don't disagree with Nick Saving about anything. When he was on my show at the time called No Mercy before we changed the name to The stephen A. Smith Show. But it was pretty bad, but enough for me joining me in a minute, as he will be joining me every Monday. Is my friend, my brother the Hall of Fame. All he did was catch touchdown passes the one and only Chris Carter.

But y'all gonna have to wait a second. I got sponsors to feed. Okay, everybody, you know what time it is. It is Tom for steven a Sports Picks.

Everybody knows I live and breed sports, and with the NFL season finally here, I need to be right there in the middle of all the action.

But how do I do that? Exactly? There's only one way. I use Prize Picks.

You see, Prize Picks is the largest fantasy sports platform in all the land, with more than three million members. You just choose two, three, or even up to six players and then pick more or less on their projected stats.

For the game.

But the best part is you can pick and choose players from any of the sports you love to watch, Jalen Hurts, Asia Wilson or Paul Skins and get this sign up with code that say yes and Prospects will give you fifty dollars instantly when you play your first five dollar lineup. You don't need to win your lineup to receive a fifty dollar bonus. It's all guaranteed. All you have to do is play a five dollar lineup on Prospects.

And you'll get fifty dollars instantly.

Now let's see my winning picks from tonight's Monday night football game.

First up, Jalen.

Hurts playing the Atlanta Falcons more or less than two hundred and twenty nine and a half passing yards.

I know Asia, I know A J.

Brown is gonna be out, but there's still got her, There's still Devonte Smith, there's still Sakwon Barkley.

Catching passes out of the backfield.

Can I see Jalen Hurts putting up more than two hundred and twenty nine and a half passing yards. The answer would be yes emphatically. I'm going with more on this one. Next up, Kirk Cousins going up against the Philadelphia Eagles secondary more or less than two hundred and twenty five and a half passing yards. Atlanta had a bad week last week. I don't think they're gonna be that this week. I still think they're gonna lose, but I don't think they'll be so bad With Kirk Cousins doesn't even get two hundred and twenty five and a half passing yards. I don't give a damn if it's dumping the bj B John Robinson out of the backfield or to anybody else for that matter, got a big time tight end as well, I.

See more in this particular situation. I'm going with more.

Not the win, but I am going with more than two one hundred and twenty five and a half yards passing. Next up, Eagles receiver Davontae Smith more or less than seventy two and a half receiving yards. I'm gonna say yes because he's gonna be a primary target tonight with AJ Brown out, so Jalen Hurts is gonna be looking for him more than usual. I think he'll capitalize off of that, maybe a couple of big plays. I think ultimately he'll end up with more than seventy two and a half receiving yards. I'm going with more on this one and Falcons tight end that I just alluded to Kyle Pitts more or less than thirty nine and a half receiving yards. If you're a tight end, particularly as big time as him, with him being a primary target of cousins, I once should believe that you could get yourself about thirty nine and a half yards forty yards such and such. I think Kyle Pitts is going to do that. I'm going with more on this one as well. So let's recap Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins, Davonte Smith, Kyle Pitts.

More and more and more and more. That's prize picks, y'all. We're always trying to get you more.

Joining me now as he will be doing every Monday this season is my friend, my brother, the Hall of Fame Wide receiver for receiver, Chris Carter, what's going on?

Big time? I would use se see how's everything?

Man?

You know we've been talking the last couple of weeks and everything, and you know, I got talking and you told me I was gonna be on the show and everything. But now I got an inside information. I know you want me to be only show I know I got.

Yeah, damn right, you got a future.

I mean, you know Carmon run thinks she's she's she's the power behind the throne.

You know how she rolls. You know how she rolls, Chris?

You know, I mean, I'm having a beautiful Monday because you know that disgusting, noiseating fan base that gets on my last damn nerves them Dallas Cowboys. I mean, I'm not talking the folks in Texas, but everywhere else.

You know, you thought they ever every year they're gonna win the Super Bowl.

I saw the New Orleans Saints score on their first six drives. I saw them have an absolute field day with them. It was hilarious to me. I didn't realize that Dallas was going to be so weak against the run. Of what have you when you saw what New Orleans did to them yesterday?

What were your thoughts?

Well, it was basically a continuation of the conversation this offseason. Last season, Dallas very very good at home, struggled.

In their last home game.

Why because they couldn't defend the run the month of December. Couldn't defend the run this offseason?

What did they do? What did they do? If you got a hole.

In your in your in your floor, you better call somebody. All they did was called up center. They ain't call up no personnel. Now, Zim does have a good scheme that typically takes people out of their run. But the NFL, it's about personnel, and they don't have the person nor have they changed in the offseason. So this is the story from twenty twenty three continuing over the twenty twenty four and will build this will effect their true directory as a football team, because there is nothing worse than getting run on or having your quarterback sack or hit an awful lot, and it's hard to win the NFL if you have one.

So so basically, what you're trying to tell me is that I might be right when I had when I was struggling to put them as one of the top six teams in the NFC's top seven teams in the NFC in terms of being one of those teams that got a playoffs by.

I might not have been wrong.

When I'm looking at New Orleans, when I'm looking at Tampa, when I'm looking looking at Seattle, even though San Francisco lost to Minnesota, I'm looking at them. You're looking at Green Bay, You're looking at Detroit, You're looking at the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cavernis it is entirely plausible.

That they could miss the playoffs?

Is that what you're saying, Well, I don't think that they're going to miss the playoffs. Besides Philadelphia, you know, there's no need to be concerned about anyone in NFC East, So they're definitely set up to be a wildcard. Philadelphia. I can leave to have a specialist season. But the way that the team is set up, there are other teams that they don't match up well looked. And when you talk about the San Francis Field of Green Bay and now New Orleans in and or Tampa Bay to Detroit, all these teams in Minnesota, almost everybody in the NFC, brother they're good.

They can run the football, So that would be a big problem.

That would be a conversation to go half throughout the season about the Cowboys and their defense.

You know, I'm looking at that, and I get where you're coming from with it. I'm just I'm just the mindset. You know, football is a team support. We all get that. But somebody, when you pay these brothers big money, you're looking for somebody to stop the bleeding. And one could easily argue that. I understand that New Orleans was having their way with them. The Saints was doing what they want to do. You know, Derek Carr and obviously you know you you look at Alvin Camara and what he was doing against them. Alive's no jokes, he is no joking. I'm still looking at it from the standpoint that Dallas got the ball back. Dak Prescott year year, y'all scored on You're in my possession? But three of them with field goes. What about what about them? What they do offensively? What they bring to the table offensively. Do you see Dallas as being as good as they were last year or weaker?

Well?

I think they're weaker offensively because outside of the cdee Lamb, who can they throw the ball to on a regular basis, Like who is approven?

Come out? Brandon Cooks has been He's been up and down throughout his.

Career, and you can turn on the Cowboys on a given Sunday and Brandon cook you won't even know if he's on the team. So it's hard to have the number two guy that disappears like that. So I have concerned they are not explosive at the running back position.

They are more of a ball controlled.

Team and z I or Elliott being at the end of his career, nothing wrong with that, but they just don't have an explosive player.

That they can put in the backfit. So those are problems.

Last year, they're a great passing attack, but once they got to the playoffs, there's still one dimension. Right now, they're a one dimensional offense. And that will have that they will have plenty of problem. I'm trying to figure out how to add variety to that offense they go throughout the season.

Let me transition to the Bengals and the Chiefs because obviously that pass interference call save the Chiefs there or whatever. I'm looking at Patrick Mahoons seventeenth in QBR thus far in the first two games of this season. I'm looking at Travis Kelcey, my brother from another mother. Got love for him the whole bit. One of the greatest tight ends in the history of football. But yesterday we saw more Taylor Swift and we saw from him on a Sunday afternoon on the football field. Damn one reception for five yards. I expected better. We saw Xavier Worthy, Bengals talking smack before the game. He goes out there, they say that he's limited. They held him the two receptions for seventeen yards. I expected better from the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday. I expected better from them offensively than what we've seen the first two games of this season. How concerned should we be or should we just shove the side because you know what, Patrick Mahomes is there and everything will be taken care of.

Well, you shouldn't suffer the side. It's a conversation of it. They have more varieties to win than they had last year. We talked about this last year with Justin Fields and at Pittsburgh Steels. Kansas City can win a defensive game, they can win a.

Shootout. They can Patrick Mahons can both for five touchdown passes.

Their defense could shut people down like Spagnola and Andy Brigy. That combination gives them championship. You know, not only pedigree, but ideas of how they can win games. Bill Bellichi used to say this all the time. Most games in the NFL are lost. So Kansas City they're a good football team. They didn't play good, but they didn't lose the game in the first three and a half quarters. That's what's allowed them to be in the game late. Yes, they got a pass interference call. It was the right call at the right time. But because they're a veteran team, and because their defense is good, and because they can run the ball, how they're going to win is going to be different weekend and week out. Now you mentioned Travis Kelson. I've been knowing him since he was a rookie coming into the NFL out of Cincinnati. He came to do his training here in South Florida. I'm gonna tell you, this is the first off season that I did not see Travis Kelsey in South Florida doing what he had done to make him legendary, potentially the best tight end them. He wasn't doing that now in South Florida. So you know, as you get in your career and once you get into certain relationships, they can alter your train. Let's try to keep.

The main thing the main thing.

I hope he goes on to have a great year, But that's just an observation with someone who has seen that kid train and now he's become an icon on and off the field, and now we get off to a slow start at this point in your career. You know, that's just a symptom. And I think that Bill is saraad is someone like you. You know, I think they were hold.

Some symptom, a symptom of see right here, you want to Steven Ay Smith shal saying what it is, bro say, don't hold back.

A symptom of it's hard to stay focused when you're chasing after them girls and basically after one of the biggest people, biggest personalities, and that life is.

Not for everyone. He looks like he's having fun, but something got to suffer. You can't. He graded everything.

But he ain't chasing us, CC, I mean, we ain't throwing his business out on you know, on front Street like that.

But everybody know he already been telling something. I mean, he ain't chasing her. That's his lady, So they ain't chasing that.

No, no, no, if you hook up with someone like Taylor swift Brook every day, you better put your trackshus on because someone else will chase her. Okay, no, no, she's not one of them.

Everything, but they can chase her.

But everybody can't catch her. I mean you can't. You can't get I mean she got I mean she got more security detail. Hell in, the President of the United States had the damn Tom You can't get that close to her.

To the fact that he got close to her, I don't know if I'm buying that with you, CC, I don't know if I'm buying that one.

Now.

I get if he was trying to get with her, that would be different.

But the fact that he got it, she's showing up to the games, or ain't no damn reason for her to be in Kansas City other than Travis Kelsey. She did all the time, So clearly he ain't chasing. He caught I mean he caught.

Her absolutely and and mad respect for Travis Kelson because he had been dating sister since high school.

That's right, and you know, and and and don't get me started with the sisters that he dated. I mean, you talk about his decision making, it's just it was just impeccable.

I'm just gonna leave it at that. It's just impeccable.

I mean, I mean, if you gonna go the other ride, it had damn well had been a ben a Taylor swimp. Because with the sisters that he was hooking up with, I mean, it was something spectacular to behold. But never but nevertheless, the you know what, he's got new heights, his podcast, he's doing big things. He's doing big things. We know he got his bag from the Kansas City Chiefs. It's just two games. We know he's gonna turn it around because it's something.

Because that's what I'm saying. Yeah, Now, last year was when he was chasing.

See, last year was when he was chasing your argument would have made more sense about last year.

This year is a little bit different.

So how much culpability is on him or could it be on Andy Reid? And Andy Reid not utilize him as effectively as he can because he's trying to fit other pieces into the equation.

What about that argument.

I think Andy Reid went into this game trying to win the game, and as the flow of the game, they didn't have a good flow to it. They had to run the ball, eat up the clock, ended up getting the injury in there. Passing game because Cincinnati, how they match up with Kansas styles make fix.

Cincinnati matches up well with them.

They can rush the minimum amount of people and play a lot of coverage and that slows them down.

Andy Reid, if they were to play in.

The playoffs, he would figure that out because he knows if they're gonna be successful.

Kelsey's got to be a big part of that.

Let me ask you this trick question. It's a trick question for you, Cec. I'm gonnaw it. You're gonna throw because on my mind right now because you brought it up. You brought it up, so it's on my mind. I'm gonna answer you this question. What's harder to deal with.

Cec you know, and I gotta I gotta answer this question.

If you know you because you distracted by by a significant other or distracted by cities like Miami, you know, places like that. You know what I'm saying, l a stuff like that. I mean, what what's the bigger distraction for a professional athlete, particularly in the.

World of football.

Is it an is it a said individual or could it be temptation islands in respective cities throughout the country.

What would you say?

It depends on what their personality is. It depends on what they're flavoring, is if they're out going or the introverts. But to me, the cities are a bigger detti because there are more distractions compared to an individual, or if a guy just likes to enjoy himself, if he has multiple relationships that he tries to juggle liqut ones I still think that the city, the city is an.

Undefeat I am la.

If you don't control yourself in those those cities will swallow you up.

They have swallowed up athletes for.

Decades and you will not be the one to master you know, so I think that the city and the other things, the accouterments to come with the cities. I think that's more of a distracting than individuals.

I was just having fun with you, because that's what to me, I've joked on many times in the past.

That's the argument.

That's the only argument I gave in favor of Lebron James being the goat. He won in Miami and la You see what I'm saying. I mean, when you got distracted, when you got those cities, it's distractions, and you somehow made take focus. You d Wade and you in Miami all of those years and you win in three championships.

I mean, my god, focused.

You look, Kobe Bryant, you in l A and you win four to five championships with all those distractions in La Lah focus. So I got to get credit with creditors due you know, when you win in cities like that.

But let me get back to football.

My man, you you do remember that. My good friend is Ron Harker, and I traveled around with.

The Bulls and Michael Jordan in Chicago.

It's not bad with Michael Jordan, but also wherever Michael Winn he was hollering so that was pretty strepfal too.

I'm just thinking about the number of people who caught frost White trying to see him because it was so damned cold in Chicago from November through March.

That's all I was thinking about. But I get your point. I get your point.

Let me ask you this, going back to the Biggles, I've been up the mindset. I hope they lose every damn game until Jamar Chase gets his money. I know you got an insurance policy and all of this stuff, but you pay Justin Jefferson, you pay CD Lamb stuff like that.

He's in that category. Give this man his money.

What has been your thoughts about the Jamal Chase situation with the Bengals and they're notoriously cheap?

Owner Mike Brown, Okay.

Steven, I gotta disagree with you, okay. And it's not.

About the money. It's about the time. Now unless the Cincinnati Baners.

Now.

I had discussions with the Minnesota Vikings about tearing up Justin Jefferson's contract over two years.

Ago in London.

I told them then they should pay him thirty five minus the highest paid player was making twenty five money.

They were like Christopher Crazy.

I didn't know he is that kind of good chases the same Wady. But him and Cdee Lamb, they had both done four years compared to three years now, this further than to the super Bowl. So that's the really only thing that he's gotten over them. But that extra year that takes you into the last year of your fine tracking. If I was the Bingles, it's better for them. He's got two years left on his contract. I was signed him the thirty five million and one dollar because it's gonna be pro rated. It's gonna end up being around thirty million because he's on more years left on the contract. So I'm all for him getting paid, But let's keep apples. Compared to apples, Ceedee Lamb and them are one year older and they had one year less on their contracts when they.

Were able to negotiate their record breaking contracts.

So you're saying, because he has two years left, be patient, suck it up. If you're gonna look at the situation, look at the fact that they had a year to.

Go before they got that deal. You got two years to go, so it's not gonna work out.

Joe Burrow, they didn't tear up his deal.

They made him go to his option year like everyone else, and then they extended it. If they had set some type of precedent within the organization that they were extending people before the contracts were up with two years left, then yes it should be recognized.

But you have to know who your business partner is.

Mike brown Man, that man ain't spent no money on no clothes or nothing. If he could have minimum facilities, he would have them. If the NFL didn't have a minimum a minimum salary cap, he would spend a minimum doud of dollars on the players. He's always been that way, So know who you're doing business with. But taking the consideration the president with j J and CD Lamb, they were one year older, one year into the contract. Compared to Chase's argument there in Cincinnati, we.

Brought up Justin Jefferson and what he's capable of and arguably the best receiving football. Even though I look at Tyreek Hill and I see somebody spectacular. I looked at Sam Donald and how he's looking thus far. Should we be paying attention to Minnesota? Have we been sleeping on them? Have we been underestimating what Minnesota could potentially do this year.

Well, there's several variables that people don't follow Minnesota don't understand.

And it just happened, you know, my friend, they just happened to we rocking eighty Yeah, were still rocking.

So there's a few things people don't know about Number one, hey old head coach. I believe it is one of the great bright young man men that is a leader of men. The types of things, the innovation as far as training, how he treats people, the vibe they have in the building, how to players love him like. He is truly on the cutting edge as far as coaching and looking at different models if you want, you're a guy to be an NFL head coach. So that's one thing. Also their quarterback coach, Like people don't know this is Josh McCown. Now, to me, Josh McCown is a special guy. When you see him, when you see his aura of about him, people love him. When you're fifteen six years of the NFL backed up as an NFL backup, we trusted him teaching our quarterbacks and then he ends up becoming a quarterback coach.

So if I think that he is going to be an up and coming young head.

Coach in their offensive person now is spectacular and just like Baker Mayfield got comfortable in Tampa after a couple unfortunate stops.

Man this NFL.

If you're a top five pit quarterback and this thing can punch you right in your face, spit you out, don't care nothing about your career. And because most of these quarterbacks aren't that mentally tough, it ruins their career. It takes away to their confidence. So he has spectacular running back, spectacular wide receivers, spectacular tight end and the wild part of this is Brian Flores on the defense. He's got some guys to get after the passer. So they are a truly truly well rounded football team. They can run, they can throw it. Defensively, they're gonna get after you. You have to prepare for that b flow, and he's got them boys on defense playing extremely well.

So, yes, the Minnesota Vikings and Sam Darnham, they are real.

Well dude, that's the case. CC.

There's three teams that could come out of the NFC North. That's Detroit, that's Green Bay, that's Minnesota. Okay, So let's say, for example, you got New Orleans and Tampa coming out of the South, let's say in San Francisco and Seattle or the Rams, despite how the Rams looked coming out of the West, that would leave Dallas down.

Don't be trying to use my information to prove your argument and trick me up.

That's what I'm trying to do. Then you the one to set it up. You gave me the ammunition. Then they're acting like it's wal Go conclusion.

It's the giant, this commander is in the NFC, so Dallas they should be in to be an easy breeze to the playoffs in the wild card spot.

No it ain't.

Oh yeah, let's go with this.

When you get new information, you have to have the right to deal change your opinion.

If you just gave me the information.

When giving the early outlook of the NFL and given the NFC, North is gonna be stronger because Chicago potentially gonna be fighting for one of those playoff spots, I go on record to say the Dallas Calvin was if they don't win the other vision, it ain't gonna lay up that they.

Gonna get a lot of cars. That's how we'll be talking about.

Okay, I'm good with that.

Let me ask you about the Steelers because listen, Justin Fields is not turning the ball over two starts, complete seventy percent of his passes, no turnovers. But he's not locking my socks off. I mean, the Steelers offense doesn't look that po in from from his position. I like Pickings, I like Warren, I like Najie Harris, I like friar Mouth. But I got concerns. How are you feeling about the Steelers quarterback situation right now?

I told you last week, Bruh, you don't need to don't need to change.

But I said, Justin Fields is just enough of average passes and when he is under center, yes, if he doesn't turn the football over. And yes, the Pittsburgh Steelers can win tough and they can win ugly football games.

They've done that for years. But to me, I prefer him to be the.

Backup and Russ, because of his ability to pass the football, especially short and intermediate.

It's superior to Justin Field.

It gives you more cushion, it gives you more bleedway, and it also gives you a good backup in case Russ gets hurt. So this is what I said after week number one, week number two prove at the beat he might not ever be a great passer of the football. But if Mike Tomlin tells me, hey, Chris, we get ready grinding this out to a division and get us into the playoffs and try to win in the cold, under the elements, Okay, I'm cool with that, but I like to have more variances for which I can win. The best team in football is Kansas City. They got at played yesterday, but it kept himself in the game because of their experience and won it at the end. The Pittsburgh Steelers have to win special team's wife and defensively, because offense right now is not popland enough to say, okay, we can go and win against any competition. They're just not there at this point, and I don't think they'll get there with Field.

Just a quarterback.

You starred at Ohio State. This brother came out of Ohio State.

What were your expectations of him when he came out of When he came out of the Ohio State, did you expect them to look like this or much much better?

I was concerned because Ohio State, he had two NFL running backs, he had four NFL receivers, he had two or three offensive linemen of NFL. Like sometimes, man that the college stuff it fools you. And yes he was at my school, but there's the reason why he left Georgia. There's a reason why Ryan Day had a certain system around him at Ohio State and he al those pulled off the big upset of Clinson there, but we came up a little bit short. But his tiiny, his lack of consistent accuracy, those are the real things. I don't care where the kid came from. Don't marry went to Ohio State. This is a critique on a quarterback back in my plan in NFL, I mean eight Pro Bowls with five different quarterbacks, So knowing quarterbacks, what the variance is and what they do good and what they don't do, it's very important to someone who plays the position.

Let me transition to the college game before I'll let you get on out of here, Shardoor Sanders, it's a deeper subject. We saw Colorado pounds on Colorado State.

We saw.

Shardoor Sanders after the game refused to shake the hand of the opposing quarterback of Colorado State because he saw him on social media talking trash prior to the hook up with his teammate talking to trash about Colorado. What are your thoughts about how should do Sanders handed that situation?

Well, any quarterback that's going to be a first or second rounder, he's got to be able to conduct himself as a CBO like he is the guy. He is the face of the organization. He's gonna have to make decisions. He's gonna have to be above reproach as far from a leadership standpoint, and it's your door. This This just didn't start this weepm with him, man, This is started since this kid has been in Little league, man, prying out there coaching with gold on glasses on, since this he did to start playing football.

His dad's been a church So this is what they have faced.

So at some point you have to be able to fight back, to be able to defend yourself. And his only defense was, I don't fool with you, man, I don't roll with you.

I heard what you said.

You know this happens along the way, Stephen, and you've had it happen to you. People say stuff and then next thing you know, you meet up with him in public and then it's all way.

He shut death. They at doing bro, no, man, get off my face. I heard what you said.

I had an incident where when I didn't get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and I was at the NFL hotel and I came downstairs and it was a guy on the NFL network. He was a brother, and me and Michael Irving embraced, and you know how that's a very very sensitive situation, yep. And Mike was like, bruh, you know they gonna give it to you. And then when I got done with him, you know this brother, he was like, oh man, Chris, you know man, they strewed you over. You know, I hope everybody know that.

And I was like, bre you was just on TDD. I was just like to get upstairs. You just say nothing. You just defend me. You didn't do nothing. Now I don't need you. My resumes speaks for itself. But don't try. You're out here trying to help me when you're really not trying to help.

This quarterback did not have Sedure's best interest at heart. That's why he was running his mouth. So now we didn't stop the game. No, no, bru I am about that.

So I truly respect what he's doing and how he went about it, and he didn't make.

A big mockery of the kid and everything. He just let him know that I know, and sometimes in your life you have to build do that.

What I saw his reaction, initially, I didn't like it because as being Prime Time Deon Sanders's son, you know he's gonna be held to a say because let's let's call it way of the sec there's a whole bunch of people out there.

Me and you ain't doing it.

But there's a whole bunch of people out there that want Deon Sanders to fall flat on his face. They want him to lose, they want him to be embarrassed, they want him they don't want anything good for him.

I love him.

I think I never asked you, but I think I think you got love for him. I know I do, and I don't root against them.

Prime is the video deal, no doubt he has. He's been one hundred percent authentic about who he is from.

Yep, the beginning, always, always, and I love him to death.

But I looked at his son and I said, damn, I hope they ain't ammunition to judge him dense. Somebody sent me the video of the quarterback Brandon Fowler, Nickelosi and Tory Tory Horton, and.

They were like, yo, we want to murder them.

And then the other guy, the quarterback was like, Yo, they were gonna they talking to smack, but the same social media, we're gonna get at them.

You know, you go on Instagram.

I mean they were saying they were extra, and I said, oh, oh hell no, yeah that that that that makes perfect sense.

How he said, nah, I saw what you said. I saw what you said.

You you can't f with me, you know that kind of stuff. And you knew it was something extra that was coming to door Sander's way leading into the game. That's not the way opponents normally talk about the competition.

It was.

It was kind of personal and I didn't like it. And that's why I'm back at shr door Sanders on this.

Yeah, and we should.

And also, man, if I'm gonna talk, try ask somebody guess what. It's not gonna someone just being trained by Tom Ray. You know, to me, I looked at Shador being trained by Tom Brady. That's what Tom Brady was doing in the NFL. People didn't believe in us. People will staying stuff to him after the game.

Remember that, man, sometimes you gotta be cold bluff them as a quarterback man. And I like the response.

I thought it was natural, and I thought it was exactly what the other quarterback deserved.

At the time I look at prime time, it is where I get worried. I hate him there. I just can't hold it back anymore because it's bold to Colorado, and I'm just saying to myself, are you really gonna get some horses, some hogs to come there and really elevate your program. If he were at Texas A and M I want him to get that job so badly. I think big things would be happening. If he were at Florida State, I think big things were happening. I don't know if he's gonna be able to pull it off at Colorado because I don't know if he's going to be able to out recruit most of those teams he's got to go up against.

To that you say, what, well, Colorado is never going to be a hot dead like there is in the South Southeast or in Texas as far as football, because you have to look at it geographically where kids are, and a lot of times that Nick Saban He explained this to me and his recruiting profile. He talked about the five hour carver. You know, families are willing to get in their car and drive four to five hours. So he diagrams from that city a radius to four hours, and that's going to be where he is going to live. From a recruiting strength standpoint. If you do that in Colorado, you're at a lot of remote places. Man, You're at a lot of places that are not people that are qualified to be d one football players that Dion would want. But one thing you have to realize is, man, you have to dance on the stage that you're on. And that's why he had to go to Jackson State get the Jackson State experience.

Now he's at Colorado.

This is really qualifying him to legit Can he be a power for conference run their organization?

And this to me legitimizes him and what he's done for that city and everything. It's more valuable than wins last week. People forget, man, they won four games last year.

This year, if he can double that, it legitimized himself in the business of college football. We know all the other things that he can do. So it's important that he's able to establish himself in Colorado as a legitimate builder of a program.

Yeah, if he can get seven eight wins, he's pulled up and he inherited a one and eleven program. You know, they won four games last year. He's turned around and and he wins seven eight games this year. That would be something. I don't see it happening, but I hope it does.

Ce Ce love you, Bro. Appreciate you man. Thanks a lot, man, all good man.

I appreciate you, no doubt.

You're right here over the digital airways or YouTube, and of course iHeartRadio.

Let's do some quick hitters for a second. Here.

We'll start in a WNBA, where Las Vegas Aces forward Asian Wilson became the first player in WNBA history to score one thousand points in the season as the Aces beat the Connecticut Sun eighty four to seventy one yesterday. Let me say this really really quick. Okay, she's the best of the world. She's the best in the world. It's just that simple. Miami heats Bam out of Baio, who's rumored to be dating. Wilson wrote about the accomplishment with this post quote, hope everybody finds a thousand reasons to smile on this lovely Sunday end quote.

She is the best. She is big time. Asia Wilson is something special. Okay.

By the way, she's gonna win the Festive Player of the Year two she's avaging twenty seven a game. All right, So she's the leading scorer in the league.

Okay.

There is no race for the league MVP. It's clearly hers. Okay, so make sure we understand that. And that's why I kept saying, I don't care what the Connecticut Cunner, even in New York Liberty or anybody else is doing. You're gonna have to show me somebody could take out Asia Wilson in the playoff series and they gonna beat the Aces.

I got to see it to believe it.

Fifty two percent shooting from the field, twenty seven points per game. She is just big time, make no mistake about it. That's my first quick hitter. Let's get to the second one right here. Please involve in Caitlyn Clark, who broke the rookie scoring record for a season.

Yesterday when she dropped thirty.

Five points in route to a one ten, one O nine victory over the Dallas Wings. Clark now has seven hundred and sixty one points, breaking the record once held by Simona Augustus.

However, there is a caveat Augustus, who.

Will be inducted into the Natesmith Basketball Hall of Fame next month, set the mark back in two thousand and six. Win the WNBA regular season was just thirty four games. Clark broke the record in thirty nine games. Who cares she did it, and that's the bottom line. She's sensational in her own right. She's going to be a superstar in this league for years to come. She's clearly the rookie of the year. She's deserving to be in an MVP candidate, even though she's ironed behind Asia Wilson and the Indiana Fever going to be in the playoffs.

So I got to give Caitlyn Clark love where it's due, as I have been doing.

And I didn't even bother to ask my staff for anybody else, because I've been I was traveling yesterday, I didn't even bother to ask did Chell Swoops call that game? I was just wondering because that's first thing, Kate to my mind. First thing k to my mind, Chell Swoops called the game because she was going up against the Dallas Wings. Okay, I didn't know what. I didn't know the answer to that question, but I guess no news is good news. So there was no drama, Okay. Indianda Fever scored one hundred and ten. That was a WNBA record, and on top of it all, she dropped thirty five Kaitlyn Clark, and you know, obviously she's leading the league and assistant all this other soce she's phenomenal. She just is Okay, so props to her and props to Asia Wilson. Let's get onto the third item. Les go back to college football, where we saw the biggest shifting Heisman odds in Las Vegas. That's because Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, accounted for five touchdowns as the Texas Longhorns beat UTSA, and Manning didn't start the game.

He came in to relieve started Quinn Yours, who left due to an oblique injury.

After Saturday's performance, Heisman, Manning's Heisman odds went.

From one fifty to one down to sixteen to one.

Wow.

Wow, I mean, I don't know how it gets that. I mean, I guess because his last name is Manning. But he did put on a show Saturday that was something special to see and he was just saying that he won't be at They say he won't be out forever. The injury is in as serious as they initially thought, so he's expected to be back on them. You know, they're gonna evaluate him on a week to week basis. But Arch Manning, I mean, we've been waiting to see him and to show up for the first time, and the ball out like that, the brothers got a promise in future clearly has an elite pedigree.

Kidding you know, so you're Peyton and Eli. I mean that's for Super Bowl.

Championships right there, and those are his uncles. So it's gonna be real interesting to watch this brother play. And it's just made Texas that much more attractive to watch it as well. Let me transition to the next subject, because what we can't what we cannot.

Say is that this was attractive to watch in Vegas.

I was in Vegas and I was on hand for UFC No Cha or is no Cha UFC Saturday Night at the Sphere. You might recall Sugar joan On O'Malley was on the show last week and predicted a second round knockout in a bantamweight title match. Well, morobduilas Villi had other plans as he ended Sugar Shawn's four year winning streak. O'Malley had been unbeaten in seven straight fights heading into Noteia UFC. It's the first time O'Malley has tasted his defeat since UFC two fifty two. He owned up to the loss to his fans afterwards, saying, quote over promised, underdelivered.

Sorry, love you guys. Okay, this is a tough thing for me to say. I was boord shitless. It was a snooze fest. Hell. Dana White wasn't happy about it.

See, this is the kind of stuff that I love day Listen, the UFC has a support in me. Dana White has a support in me. Stuff like this is what makes the UFC, is.

What compromises them. Morobber is a is a grappler, it's a wrestler.

And yeah, he threw some punches, but for the most part he was taking Sean O'Malley to the ground. That's not what people want to see. People want to see knockouts. They want to see an action packed fight. They don't want to see somebody circling around the ring looking for an opportunity to grab at you at your knees and your ankles. That's not what they want to see. That's the stuff that gets in the way potentially of the UFC. That's the one that potentially makes it unattractive. When we think about Connor McGregor against Michael Chandler, you know why we get excited about that fight because we know somebody gonna get knocked out. Even though Justin Gatgee got knocked out most ago. We love the slugfest. We don't want to see somebody tapping out, you know, without the punches. Yeah, you could tap out, but we don't want to see a bunch of grappling up against the cage. We don't want to see that. When you see a knockout artist, you want to see them knocked out. You want to see them knock somebody out. You want to see them get knocked out. It's what you want to see. And that's what made the fight boring, wasn't Sean O'Malley's for. I mean, you got to handle your business because that's the sport you in.

You chose that job.

Nobody asked you to do it, You chose it. So you got to know how to continue to make that excitement. And I appreciate his quote his tweet because he was absolutely absolutely on the money. Over promised, under delivered. That's on him, but we kind of knew it, saw it coming. Connor McGregor versus being the Mega Metoff was somewhat similar. That wasn't boring at all. That was one of the major biggest events I'd ever been a part of. And Omega medoff nearly and dropped quarter with the overhand, right. So we see stuff, we look for stuff like that, that's not what we got Saturday night.

That was a snooze fest. Let me get to the boxing, though, because that wasn't now.

You may recall Edgar Berlinga, who appeared on this show before his fight with Canelo Alvarez last week, and how he predicted a victory, but Alvarez did dominate the underdoor Berlinka for most of the fight to win a unanimous decision with scorecards of one to seventeen.

Nine eight one o nine. Here's the deal.

Canilo Coughton would have left and dropped him in the third round, but Linga punched.

His fist together, got up and was fighting.

Now.

He was outclassed, but.

It wasn't boring. The brother wasn't playing, he wasn't backing up, and Fat Joe and all those Puerto Ricans that supported Belina. Belina made a good name. He made a good show on for himself. I was scared to death he was gonna get slaughtered because I said, yo, I know you know how to fight, and I know he knocked out his first sixteen opponents in the first round, and I know that he's got seventeen knockouts in the twenty two or nothing record going into Saturday Night. But My issue with Berlina was if you don't know how to back up against Canilo Alvarez, you're going to have a problem. And this brother stood there and was fighting. Now again, he got out classed. The better fighter won. But Berlinka's young, and if he hasn't been softened up by this, this brother has the potential to be a superstar in this game. I got mad props to give him because he showed up. He didn't back up. He was out there, he was ready to go the whole nine. I gotta give credit where credit is due. I gotta do that. I gotta do that because he was throwing blows. He was trying. It's just that he wasn't gifted enough to beat Canilo. But he didn't back up. Even when he got dropped, he got up the moment one with the thought was too big for him, It wasn't. He just wasn't a superior boxer, that's all it was for Belinka is somebody to watch in the future. And by the way, as an aside, the Prince Saudi Arabia was sitting at ringside.

I'm not gonna try to pronounce his name for y'all. All over these airways. But I'm gonna tell you this. They called me on my phone.

They asked me to come down the ringside to see him, and sitting next to him was Terrence Crawford.

And Terrence Crawford.

He and I had a conversation with about five minutes in between fighters, and Terrence Crawford wants Canilo.

Alpharez badly, badly, he said, flat out. Is for the legacy.

He remembers when Roberto Duran moved up and waited fort Marvelus, Marvin Hagler. He remember once Hearns tried to do it. He remember when Sugar Ray won at the light heavyweight division. He's like, it can be done. Canelo Alvarez can be beaten. I can beat Canelo Alvarez. And I gotta tell you Terrence Crawford looked a little bit bigger. He wants one fight and one fight only, and he is willing to move up to one sixty eight to fight Canelo Alvarez at the super middleweight division for the super middleweight title. The more I listen to him speak, the more I don't mind the thought of that fight happening. I just wanted to say that coming up, there was another assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump over the weekend. I can't do the show and ignore that issue.

Got to touch it.

That's coming up next right here on the Steph Nate Smith Show over the Digital Areas YouTube and of course I Heart Radio back with more in a minute. Welcome back to Steven Aate Smith Show right here over the Digital Areas a YouTube and of course iHeartRadio. I have to transition to a different subject, the far more serious subject, because obviously we don't run from serious subjects on this show. On Sunday, former President Donald Trump was the subject of yet another apparent assassination attempt, the second and roughly two months this time. Shots were fired from the Secret Service at Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the former president was golfing. The secret Service, moving ahead of the Republican nominee on the course, spotted the barrel of a gun sticking through the bushes that align the course. According to The New York Times, investigators say cell phone that shows the suspect the peers to have waited.

Near the golf course for about twelve hours.

Official say the suspect, identified as fifty eight year old Ryan Westley. The routh was roughly four hundred yards away. He was engaged with gunfire from security, and he eventually fled the scene. He was captured not too long afterwards and charged with possessing a firearm as a felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. President Joe Biden released the statement and had this to say quote, I've been briefed by my team regarding what federal law enforcement is investigating as a possible assassination attempt a former President Trump. Today, a suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former president and those around him safe. I'm relieved that the former president is unharmed. There is an active investigation into this incident as law enforcement gathers more detail about what happened. As I've said many times, there is no place for political violence, or for any violence ever in our country. Directed my team to continue to ensure that the Secret Service has every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to ensure the former president's continued safety.

End quote.

Donald Trump however, believes it is the rhetoric from his opponents on the left causing this to happen, saying of the shoot a quote, he believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it.

Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at.

When I'm the one who's going to save the country and they're the ones that are destroying the country, both from the inside and out end quote. First thing, first, First things first, thank god nothing happened to president to former president Donald Trump.

Let's get that out of the way first.

No matter what you may think of him or what have you, we don't wish and we shouldn't wish that kind of violence upon anybody.

So let's get that out the way.

Number two, respectfully, the former president Donald Trump, If you're gonna blame the rhetoric of Biden and Harris and the left, what about your rhetoric. They're trying to destroy the country, You're trying to save the country, et cetera, et cetera. Isn't that rhetoric just in the incendiary? So those who live in glasshouses shouldn't throw stones figuratively, speaking of course. Number two, Number three, why isn't Ralph's dead. Nobody's saying it yet, I'm gonna say it because you see, when we talk about folks, particularly African Americans in this country, and you talk about people being shot who.

Were unarmed, why is this man arrested?

See, most of the time in the past, folks knew better than doing certain things because you knew something was gonna happen to those folks, just like it happened during the first assassination attempt against Donald Trump.

I'm not saying that I wish it a part them. I'm saying about expectation.

Arrested after fleeing the scene when you try to assassinate the former president of the United States. Don't let me find out it was some case similar to Dylan Roof that went into South Carolina church shot and killed nine people, and the cops picked them up, arrested them, and took him for stopping Burger king. Don't let us find that out. But let me say something else, because it's important to point out nothing had better happened to Donald Trump. God helped this country if it does, because if something happens to him, considering the rhetoric, considering the violent tendencies that we've been witnessing from people, considering the mayhem that's been taking place throughout America over the last few years or so. All it's gonna serve is as an excuse for somebody to try to do something to somebody on the left, whether it's Biden Harris to somebody else.

We don't need We need to shut that down collectively.

We need to come together as a nation and make sure everybody understands there's a standard that will be upheld. This is a democracy, this is America. You don't get to just do what you want to do. We're a civilized society and we don't go for all of that mayhem In a democratic society, we don't like you four years you're behind us out, six years of your senator, two years of you're a congressional figure. We lean on that to make sure you recognize you're not a perpetual prisoner to the political system that.

Hovers over all of us. We're we're a land of laws. Let's make sure we remember that.

And let's make sure that we enforce it with the stiffness and rigidity that's necessary to provide the strongest disincentive for anybody to do something like that, because you know as well as I do, if anything happens to somebody on the left, somebody on the left is gonna do it to somebody on.

The right, or at least try to, and vice versa.

If something happens to Trump, somebody's gonna try to do something to have with, somebody's gonna try to do something about.

It, or lord knows what else.

We need to collectively come together and make sure everybody understands where we're coming from as a society that even despite our differences, and despite how adamant we are about our differences, we have faith in one another as a nation that we can overcome anything without resorting to that kind of insidious behavior. That's all I want to say about it, than them talking about he's instructed Congress to do whatever it can that Trump needs more security detail, et cetera, et cetera. Your damn righty does? He should have He and Kamala Harris should have the same kind of Secret Service security detail as President Biden. That is true, because that's how volatile times are.

And they're saying that they got about eight thousand Secret Service members and they need like nine thousand, eight hundred or something they're like or seven or eighteen hundred short, seventeen or eighteen hundred short. Get them.

We find money for everybody else. We find money for everything else. You can find money for this. To give more personnel to ensure their security, because they're saying, if Trump had more security, they could have shut down the golf course and he would have had nothing to worry about, and it wouldn't have been somebody.

In the bush's four hundred yards away. It takes to ensure.

The welfare and wellbeing of these individuals that are running for the presidency of the United States of America, because if anything happens to any of them, all that awaits us is Mayhem, and we don't need that. That's it for today's edition of the Steven Nate Spirits Show. I'm about to get on out of here. Hope y'all enjoyed the show.
