Vice President Kamala Harris seems to be cruising to locking up the Democratic nomination as a replacement for President Joe Biden. Major Democratic leaders are coalescing around her and no one has emerged as a potential challenger at the convention next month.

Barely 24 hours after President Biden announced that he would step aside and not seek re-election, endorsing Kamala Harris as his successor, she has raised an astounding amount of money through ActBlue, she’s won the endorsements of almost every one of her potential rivals as well as the backing of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, and from coast to coast state delegations and individual delegates to the DNC are pledging their support for her, shifting their allegiance from Joe Biden. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has already launched a multi-pronged attack on her, accusing her of covering up President Biden’s mental condition and tagging her with everything they blamed previously on him, from inflation to illegal immigration.

For more on the whirlwind of the last 24 hours and what happens next, KCBS Radio insider Doug Sovern, along with KCBS Radio anchors Bret Burkhart and Patti Reising, were joined by attorney and political strategist Christine Pelosi of San Francisco, a delegate to the Democratic National Convention as a member of the executive committee of the Democratic National Committee, and the longtime chair of the Women’s Caucus in the California Democratic Party. This is the State of California.
