As a bill to legalize magic mushrooms and other hallucinogens goes before an Assembly appropriations committee this week, the Alliance for Safer Use of Psychedelics launched today. 

This group is dedicated to facilitating access to psychedelics and enhancing public education on their use in California.

This initiative comes in response to Governor Newsom's veto last fall of a bill that would have decriminalized magic mushrooms for personal use.

Alliance for Safer Use of Psychedelics launches amid magic mushroom bill talks

Artificial intelligence, or AI, has been dominating the headlines of late, with
countless efforts by state lawmakers to regulate it or rein it in, and Governor
Newsom convening a first-of-its-kind summit meeting in conjunction with
Stanford and UC Berkeley to chart California’s way forward with this
groundbreaking and rapidly expanding technology.

San Francisco has become the hub for AI innovation and that sector is driving economic growth in the Bay Area right now. But as the use of AI proliferates, how can you tell what’s real and what’s fake? How do you know I wrote this introduction, and not some Chat Bot? How do you even know I’m not a robot? If I were, my grocery bill would be much lower. And in an age already plagued by misinformation, how can voters discern between what’s legit and what isn’t?

State governments attempt to restrict AI prior to elections

A New York jury has found Donald Trump guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, making him the first former US president convicted of a crime.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee faces a maximum sentence of up to four years behind bars, but prosecutors have not said whether they intend to seek imprisonment. 

Yesterday we talked about what this could all mean for Trump’s campaign if the jury finds him guilty, now that it's official that question and many more continue to loom over our heads. To get some answers, KCBS Radio's Doug Sovern, Bret Burkhart, and Patti Reising were joined by Laurie Levenson, Law Professor at Loyola Law School.

The first-ever criminal trial of a former president went to the jury today, and now Donald Trump awaits his fate. 

What could it mean for Trump’s campaign if the jury finds him guilty? 

The former president has been setting low expectations outside the courtroom, complaining about the process and the judge and preparing his supporters for the likelihood of a conviction, which he will be sure to appeal if it comes. Meanwhile, since his campaigning is limited while he’s on trial, Trump has been holding events in New York and New Jersey, rallying voters in the South Bronx last weekend and focusing heavily on outreach to Latino and Black voters, boasting that he is pulling more of them away from the Democrats and President Biden.

He is the author of the new book, The Latino Century: How America’s Largest Minority is Transforming Democracy, which comes out from Simon and Schuster on June 18th.
