On this episode of The Spotlight, Takee, Deakan, Jake, Marcus and Cayden have a really fun conversation together, filled with live music and banter.

The Bluebirds are a four-piece rock ’n’ roll group formed in South Melbourne. The band began with close friends Jake Hanney and Deaken Fawcett, who met while studying at JMC Academy and officially formed the group in August 2024. After a few early lineup changes, the project was temporarily stripped back to just the two of them, focusing on songwriting and defining the band’s direction.
In 2025, things properly fell into place when they met drummer Cayden McClelland and guitarist Marcus Bonnici, who had both joined the university that year. With the full lineup locked in, the band quickly found their footing and began rehearsing heavily, building a tight live sound and refining their identity. This momentum led to the recording of their debut single, Feel The Breeze In Your Hair, a song written by Jake Hanney and developed over time since 2023.
The track was released earlier this year and launched with a sold-out show at The Tote on January 11, marking a major milestone for the band. Drawing influence from The Beatles, classic rock, Merseybeat, and The Police, The Bluebirds blend melodic songwriting with high-energy performances. With three songwriters in the group, their music spans a wide range of styles, making each live show varied, dynamic, and unpredictable.
