Laura and Tina agree on almost nothing in pop culture, except Stardust. For the (very loosely timed) 19th anniversary, we’re finally unpacking our joint favourite movie, and rewatching it as adults was a lot.

We break down why this movie quietly teaches us that the heroes are young and hot and the villains are old and haggard, and why Michelle Pfeiffer’s star-eating witch might actually have a point. We revisit the wagon romance we swooned over as teens and ask some very uncomfortable questions about Dunstan, then watch his son repeat history with a chained-up Claire Danes.

Plus, the cast nobody clocked at the time, from a pre-Daredevil Charlie Cox to a moustached Henry Cavill, and the Robert De Niro role we’ll defend forever. Chaotic, magical and deeply problematic, it’s still our comfort movie. Stardust is available to rent on Prime Video.
