Here is what is making news for September 22, 2025.================================Locals with a passion for aviation or community development are being urged to nominate for the Cobden Aerodrome committee.

Corangamite Shire Mayor Kate Makin says the Council-owned aerodrome is managed by volunteers, who play a key role in guiding its operations.
================================================================It’s been a busy week for the region’s emergency services, with Colac SES responding to seven fallen trees and a road rescue.

Police confirmed the rescue took place yesterday at the corner of Shurvells and Shorts roads, after a single vehicle crashed into a safety barrier.

SES crews cleared the trees from local roads and assisted at the crash scene, with no serious injuries reported.
================================================================Colac’s Eastern Reserve oval will be closed over the coming months as Colac Otway Shire Council upgrades the playing surface.

The works will address long-standing issues with subsidence and uneven ground, making the oval safer and easier to maintain for the Colac Braves Baseball Club and City United Cricket Club.

Council contractors will top-dress and level the surface, with major works beginning in September.

The oval will be fenced off until mid-January, with temporary access limits near the cricket nets and clubrooms.
================================================================Families across the south-west will have even more reasons to get outdoors these school holidays, with rainbow trout being stocked in local lakes.

Almost 80 family-friendly spots across Victoria are receiving more than 35,000 catchable-size fish, including popular south-west destinations, such as Cobden Lake.================================================================Surf Coast Shire Council is considering changes to operating hours at the new Winchelsea Pool after strong community feedback.

Locals called for consistent hours during school terms and holidays, and a trial closure threshold of around 18 to 20 degrees, freeing up time for longer hours on hotter days and weekends.
================================================================Wage Inspectorate Victoria officers will be visiting venues across South West Victoria during the school holidays to ensure compliance with workplace laws.
================================================================AND IN SPORTAlvie has been crowned the CDFNL senior football premiers after an 8 point win against the Colac Imperials.

Lincoln Dare was named the player of the match.

The Colac Imperials won by nine against Irrewarra-Beeac in the A Grade netball with coach Eliza Cahill winning best on court.
