Here is what is making news for September 2, 2025.=====================================September brings many health awareness campaigns with several felt across the Colac Otway region.

Colac Area Health CEO Fiona Brew says the first week is recognised as women's health week while the month raises awareness for dementia.
==========================================================================Environmental group Greenpeace is warning against further gas drilling in the Otway Basin, after allegations multinational company ConocoPhillips covered up a major methane leak in Darwin.

The US energy giant is currently test drilling off Victoria’s south-west coast, close to the Twelve Apostles.
==========================================================================The revitalisation of Point Grey in Lorne is set to begin, with the final Urban Design Framework now released. 

The redevelopment aims to improve public access, add new open space, restore a food and drink venue, and introduce upgraded facilities for locals and visitors. 
==========================================================================Barwon Water says Colac and coastal storages have bounced back, but Geelong is facing its driest winter since 2008.

Colac storages are at 90 per cent, Lorne at 100, and Apollo Bay at 70. 
==========================================================================The RACV is urging South west drivers to stay alert behind the wheel as the latest claims data has been released showing that there has been an increase in claims of collisions involving kangaroos.
==========================================================================Surfing Victoria has confirmed dates for the 2025 Great Ocean Road Women’s Surf Fest in Lorne.

The two-day celebration of women’s surfing will run November 14 and 15.

CEO Adam Robertson says last year’s inaugural event was a huge success and this year promises to be even bigger. 
==========================================================================Nominations are now open for the 2025 Wannon Sport and Volunteer Awards.

Local MP Dan Tehan says the awards are designed to honour the remarkable contributions of people across the region, whether through sporting achievements or community service.

Sporting categories cover primary and secondary school students, as well as open teams and individuals. ==========================================================================AND IN SPORTThe Colac Braves Division 4 baseball team has booked a spot in the Grand Final with a dominant 9–3 win over Corio.

The Braves collected ten hits, highlighted by Simon Day going 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch, and Jason Schram adding 2-for-3 at the plate.

Saxon Cooper smashed an inside-the-park home run, driving in three runs. 
==========================================================================The Harry Salmon Memorial Race has been run in windy but otherwise perfect conditions over the 22-kilometre Warrion circuit from Beeac.

Riders from Colac, Geelong, Warrnambool and Portland contested the event, with strong racing across the grades.

Division 1 lost 5-1 to Leopold FC.

Division 2 beat Corio Bay 4-1.

And Division 3 lost 1-nil to Drysdale.
