Here is what is making news for October 24, 2025.====================================The Electric Homes Program is helping Colac Otway residents switch to cost-saving, all-electric living, with Colac Otway Shire Council backing the initiative for a third year.========================================================================61 of the top 100 dairy farms recognised with the lowest Bulk Milk Cell Count were from Western Victoria with the farms recognised at Dairy Austria's Milk Quality Awards.

Dairy Australia's National Milk Quality and Biosecurity Lead Dr Zoe Vogels says it reflects the South West's strong dairy industry and overall quality even after a difficult 18 months.
========================================================================Preparations are underway for the Colac Area Health Foundation’s Otways Winter Festival — which is taking a twist this year, being held in Spring.

Foundation representative Ami Hillage says this Sunday’s event will offer something for everyone, with a great mix of food, entertainment, and community spirit to support local health services.
========================================================================Ambulance Victoria responded to an incident in Princetown just before 12:40 yesterday afternoon.

Advanced Life Support paramedics attended alongside other emergency services.

The patient was reported to be in a stable condition, and the air ambulance was dispatched.
========================================================================Live music will return for the youth of Colac with an underage disco returning in November.

Mayor Jason Schram says the event will be within a controlled environment, and hopes more similar events will continue into next year.
========================================================================Plans for a permanent boat ramp at Lake Purrumbete are taking shape, following the opening of a temporary ramp off Hamilton Lane.

Victorian Fisheries Authority CEO Trav Dowling says ideas for the permanent ramp are still in the early stages, with consultation and planning yet to come.
========================================================================AND IN SPORTThe Colac Basketball Association will send 14 Colac Kookas teams to compete at the Warrnambool Junior Seaside Classic.

Hundreds of young players will descend on Warrnambool for the tournament, with the Under 18 Boys hoping to continue their strong form after their recent victory over Hamilton earlier this month.
========================================================================Round two of the Colac South West Premier Cricket kicks off this weekend.

Simpson takes on Apollo Bay, while Princetown Heytesbury meets Bookaar.

Pomborneit faces Ecklin, and Irrewarra plays City United. Camperdown hosts Woorndoo, and Birregurra clashes with Stoneyford.

Colac and Alvie will go head-to-head, with Cobden enjoying a bye.

Lower grade action also gets underway across the competition this weekend.
