Here is what is making news for October 14, 2025.================================National Carers Week will be celebrated across the Colac Otway region this week.

The recognition began on Monday and will continue through until this Saturday.

Colac Area Health CEO Fiona Brew says carers are incredibly important and something the community should be thankful for.
================================================================Get Fire Ready workshops will continue across the South West region.

More than 500 workshops will take place across the entirety of Victoria across the month, with 343 already done and a further 209 to come.

Later today a fire planning workshop will take place at Beeac, along with a session at Yeo tomorrow, and one in Lavers Hill this Saturday.
================================================================A busy weekend on the road saw an increased workload for the regions police officers.

Colac Highway Patrol detected six drug drivers over the weekend and issued more than 30 penalty notices for a range of offences, but mostly for speeding.
================================================================The profitability of dairy farming in Victoria has tanked in the last 12 months, mainly due to the drought and lower milk prices.

The latest Dairy Farm Monitor Project conducted by Dairy Australia and Ag Victoria shows profits fell by 57 per cent in Gippsland, 48 per cent in South West Victoria, and 34 per cent in northern Victoria.

================================================================Colac Otway Shire Council is completing maintenance works to repair the commercial wastewater system at Forrest Caravan Park.
================================================================South west families can now score a helping hand to get their kids active this summer, with $200 sports vouchers available through the State Government’s Get Active Kids program.

The vouchers help cover costs like club memberships, uniforms, and equipment — making it easier for families to keep kids involved in community sport.
================================================================AND IN SPORTJunior Colac and District cricket kicks off tonight with the start of the Under 17s cricket season.

Junior co-ordinator Nick Hay says junior participation is on the rise with nine teams entered in under 17s and 12 in under 14s.================================================================It was a big weekend for Colac Kookas basketball, with several junior teams making it to their grand finals.

The Under 18s Division 1 Boys capped off an unbeaten weekend, taking out the premiership with a 50 to 41 win over Warrnambool.

The Under 18 Girls went down to Hamilton, while both Under 16s sides and the Under 12 Girls fell short in their grand finals.
================================================================It was a differing weekend for the regions premier cricket talent.

Josh Garner picked up a wicket as Geelong bowled Camperwell all out for 146. Geelong finished the day's play 3 for 137 needing another 9 runs on the next day's play.

Casey South Melbourne piled on the runs against Henry Melville's Melbourne University with them ending the day's play at 2 for 393.

Aanliya Cheeran picked up a wicket in Geelong's 49 run T20 win against Box Hill, two in the teams 6 run win against Ringwood.
