Here is what is making news for June 1, 2026.===============================An invitation is open for residents across the South West to help shape regional environmental decisions. The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority is expanding its Community Engagement Network and wants to recruit people from diverse backgrounds.
==============================================================27 new Australians were awarded Australian Citizenship at the latest intake at COPACC on Friday.

Among the new citizens was Rob Watson, who moved from England 28 years ago.
==============================================================The dangerous intersection of Deans Creek Road and Pound Road will undergo major safety upgrades following a funding boost from the Victorian Government.

Identified as a high-risk area for drivers failing to give way, the site saw a crash as recently as twenty-twenty-four. 
==============================================================Not-for-profit organisations in Camperdown and Winchelsea are set to benefit from a major national funding boost.

The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal has awarded more than one point one million dollars in grants across the country, with over four hundred thousand dollars allocated to twenty-nine Victorian communities.

==============================================================State Emergency Service volunteers have completed a complex early Saturday morning rescue after a vehicle rolled onto its side and wedged against a tree at Scotts Creek.

Emergency crews worked in tight conditions on the Timboon-Colac Road to free an eleven-year-old boy through the rear window with minor injuries. 
==============================================================AND IN SPORTIn the weekend's CDFNL action the Otway Districts continued its winning momentum on the netball court against Apollo Bay.

Irrewarra-Beeac had a convincing win against the Western Eagles.

Colac Imperials had a narrow win over South Colac.

Birregurra made lightwork of Alvie, and Lorne has a resounding win over Simpson.

On the football field Otway won by 22.

Colac Imps beat South by 18.

Alvie beat Birregurra by 17.

Lorne had an 11 point win over Simpson. and Irrewarra-Beeac smashed the Eagles by 85.
==============================================================The Colac Tigers were competitive but went down by 9 in the football and 11 in the netball against St Joseph's in round 8 GFNL action.

The Tigers had a 17 point lead in the football going into the final quarter before being overrun by St Joseph's.
==============================================================It was a rough weekend for the regions Hampden League football teams with both sides suffering big losses.

Cobden went down to Koroit by 124 points, while Camperdown suffered a 45 point loss to Portland.

Both sides also lost in the netball with Cobden going down by 47 and Camperdown losing by 8.
