Here is what is making news for August 14, 2025.==================================Residents can have their say on updated flood mapping for the Curdies River Catchment.

Corangamite Shire is holding drop-in sessions in Cobden and Timboon on Thursday 28 August to get feedback on modelling based on past flood events.
====================================================================The Victorian Government will soon start major upgrades on five key inland routes connected to the Great Ocean Road.

Works will include electronic speed signs at Deans Marsh Primary School, safety barriers on Birregurra–Forrest and New Irrewillipe roads, and intersection upgrades at Princetown and Barongarook.====================================================================A remarkable fossil find in the Surf Coast region has revealed a new species of ancient whale — dating back 25 million years.
====================================================================Port Campbell’s $19-million town centre upgrade has been officially opened, with celebrations on the foreshore.
====================================================================Telstra will soon upgrade 4G and 5G capacity at its Pirron Yallock mobile base station, promising faster downloads, smoother streaming, and less congestion.

The site will be switched off from 7am Monday 18 August to 5pm Tuesday 19 August, with further testing interruptions on Wednesday 20 August.
====================================================================Community groups from Colac Otway to Timboon are sharing in the latest federal Volunteer Grants funding.

Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan, has confirmed all 23 applicants in his electorate were successful, with more than 64-thousand dollars awarded.
====================================================================AND IN SPORTA competition featuring all Division 1 teams from the Colac and District and South West Cricket Associations now seems imminent after South West Clubs voted to go ahead with the proposition.

CDCA president Steve Millar says meetings will continue to take place as the two associations come together, with finer details to be ironed out in the coming months.

Victorian Country Cricket League president Kelvin White says it's fantastic to see two associations working together to help the game progress.
