This week's early voting numbers in Colorado are sending mixed signals, leaving many wondering what it all means. The Secretary of State's office reported that 1.2 million ballots have been returned, with Democrats leading the way, but the numbers are not as clear-cut as they seem.

The speaker delves into the details of the early voting numbers, pointing out that the state's head start on mailing ballots may be skewing the results. By comparing the numbers to the same point in 2022, it appears that the surge in early voting is not as significant as some have claimed. In fact, the pace of ballots being returned is actually 14% slower than in 2022, when the state didn't start mailing ballots until the week of October 17th.

The speaker also highlights the importance of looking beyond the party affiliation on the envelopes, as the unaffiliated voters, who make up 51% of the state's active voters, are often the deciding factor in Colorado elections. With 520,000 unaffiliated voters having turned in ballots, but their votes remaining unknown, the outcome of the election remains uncertain.

To get a clearer picture of what's to come, the speaker suggests keeping an eye on the daily numbers and the unaffiliated share of the ballots, which tends to climb as election day approaches. If you haven't voted yet, it's not too late to make your voice heard - take your ballot to a drop box or a voter service center by 7 o'clock Tuesday night.
