In a recent speech, Barack Obama, former president of the United States took the stage, promising a crowd of enthusiastic supporters that they deserve a doctor, a decent paycheck, a house of their own, and a cheaper fill-up. But as the speaker pointed out, the promises came with no price tag, no explanation of who would pay, and no mention of the trade-offs involved.

This episode delves into the world of politics and economics, where promises are made and broken, and the consequences of those promises are often ignored. The speaker critiques the idea of a living wage, pointing out that it's not a one-size-fits-all solution and that the costs of implementing such a policy would be significant. They also examine the idea of Medicare for all, highlighting the estimated costs of such a plan and the potential consequences of implementing it.

The speaker also touches on the topic of lobbying and the influence of special interest groups in politics. They argue that lobbying is not inherently bad, but rather a necessary part of the democratic process. However, they also point out that the current system is skewed in favor of those with the most money and influence.

If you're interested in a more nuanced discussion of politics and economics, and a critical examination of the promises made by politicians, then this episode is a must-listen. Join us as we explore the complexities of these issues and the consequences of the choices we make.
