I want to talk about domestic violence now, because last week a bill was unveiled in Parliament, which aims to increase the sentences for repeat offenders, and set a higher threshold for bail.
The bill also broadens the language around domestic violence to include people who are dating, or as the bill puts it, people who are “intimate partners”. That’s opposed to currently, where the law explicitly refers to “spouses” and “common-law partners”.
