Proud sparkling wine producers in Tasmania are making moves to give their product the same protections given to Champagne, which is produced in a region of France.

A delegation of European Union officials have travelled to the state, to discuss naming rights and proceses. 

Reporter Roshai Murdoch spoke with Tasmanian Wine Maker and Consultant Doctor Andrew Pirie who says it's time locally produced sparkling wine is properly protected.
