But, it's not all good news, with fuel, feed and fertiliser costs expected to affect returns well into the upcoming financial year.

I caught up with Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics assistant secretary, Peter Gooday, to find out more about the state of the industry and the challenges facing farmers.
