Australia's barley exporters are disappointed China has decided to enforce an 80 percent tariff, effectively ending the trade.

It'll likely cost the sector about $500 million in lost income, in a blow to grain growing regions already battling the impacts of drought.

The tariff will be in place for 5 years.
