Local governments in South Australia's Eyre Peninsula are asking farmers if they'd want the moratorium on GM crops continued.

The region's local government association has put out a survey to gauge farmers opinions on the lifting of the ban.

Under the new legislation councils can apply to have their area remain GM free.
