Exporters are calling for federal government action on the rising fees and surcharges being placed on their cargo. 

Shipping lines have introduced 'war surcharges' of up to $5,000 on refrigerated containers, charges on fuel use at terminals, and fresh 'emergency' pricing.

Charlotte Kelly has never lived on a farm, but her research into blotch disease in barley has scored the Queenslander the Paul Johnston Memorial Senior Science Award - as part of the Hermitage Schools Science Competition.

The Year 12 student from Glasshouse Christian College looked at genetics and resistance - and now wants to pursue a career in the science of food production.
