With the General Election approaching, some of New Zealand’s major political voices are coming to Wānaka for The Election Conversation.
Jack catches up with Monique Kelly from Wao Aotearoa to preview the event, which will bring representatives from seven political parties together at Rippon Hall as part of the Wao Summit 2026.
The discussion will tackle issues affecting both the Upper Clutha and the wider country, including the cost of living, housing and infrastructure, climate change, the economy, health, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and community wellbeing.
Importantly, the questions won’t just come from the moderator. Wānaka and Upper Clutha locals are being invited to submit the questions they want put to the political panel, helping make sure local priorities are part of the conversation.
Monique explains why Wao wanted to create the event, why getting involved in the democratic process matters, and how you can have your say before the candidates take the stage.
The Election Conversation takes place at Rippon Hall on Tuesday 27 October, with the main discussion beginning at 6.30pm.
