AI is making scams faster, more convincing, and harder to detect - and it can happen to anyone. Charlotte Mortlock talks to cybercrime expert Richard Mallam, founder and CEO of identity technology company VO and former head of payments and identity at Google, about how scammers are using deepfakes and cloned voices (built from as little as three to seven seconds of audio) to impersonate your bank, your bank, or your family, and why the system currently puts the burden on victims to prove a scam wasn't them.
Richard explains the three stages of a modern scam, why voice fraud has surged 1,300% year on year, and what technology already exists to stop it.
