For the very first time, World Pride is being held in Australia. And while the LGBTQIA+ is being encouraged and given a platform to celebrate along with their allies, there is a stage in Australia where the rainbow flag still sparks controversy.
A lot of sporting codes in Australia include an annual Pride round in their fixtures, where players are asked to don the rainbow flag either on their arm bands, guernseys, jerseys or elsewhere. But, some players refuse to wear the symbol and choose to instead boycott that game.
In this episode of The Quicky, we speak to an athlete who is in a same-sex relationship whose teammate declined to wear a rainbow guernsey for their Pride round to find out how you navigate your sporting career with a teammate who publicly doesn't the LGBTQIA+ community.
