A heads-up for anyone planning to head out on the water this weekend new lifejacket laws come into effect Sunday across Queensland.

Starting December 1, they will be mandatory in high-risk situations, like crossing coastal bars on some vessels, boating alone or at night, and for kids on boats under 4.8 meters.
