It is The Odd Couple. I'm Chris, He's Rob.
We're live all the way live and Uh we're here at the tireraq dot com studios where we always rock the house from with Mary Mary on the boards.
So keep it locked here for the next two hours.
UH.
Tirereck dot com has an unmatched selection folks, fast, free shipping, free row hazard protection, and more than ten thousand recommend it installers. Tireright dot com is the way tire buying should be. Bottom of the hour. Carry Kittles, former NBA veteran, will be coming on as we break down these NBA playoffs with Carrie and then shop talk will follow with that. Rob, let's go to the Eastern Conference. We've talked about the Lakers in the West. The Knicks had a great series with the Philadelphia seventy six Ers closed them out Rob in six games. And do you know, Rob, the point differential between the two teams, Rob G correct me.
If I'm wrong.
I saw this today a couple of times was one point. The Knicks outscored the Sixers over the six games by one point.
That's incredible.
Yeah, that's how close it was. And the field goal percentages were very similar. I mean, it was a really good series, and of.
Course it was go seven, so you were close that.
I thought the Knicks would win. I thought it'd be seven. But congrats to them. They took him out in six. Didn't waste you know, won't have to deal with a seventh game. And Rob the star for the Knicks and the star of the series, of course, Jalen Brunson. The last three games, Rob forty seven points, forty points and last night in the close out forty one points. For the series, he averaged thirty five point five points and nine assists.
Rob.
He was fantastic.
He was dynamic or average over forty points for the last three games and I'm sorry, last four games and was just incredible. Remember, does not have his second best player alongside of him, Julius Randall.
But that might be a good thing, Chris.
To be honest, well, I will tell you this, I don't think Julius Randall would make much of a difference for them. He hasn't been good in the playoffs. You're right, he takes the ball out of Jalen's hands and take shots away from him. I think Julis Randall's a good player, but I honestly don't think they'd be any more of a championship contender with him than they are without.
Him, Right, That's what I mean.
Yeah, But all that said, Rob, I want to ask you a simple question.
Is Jalen Brunson now a superstar?
Uh?
No? Wow, he's hot.
He's interesting, he's dynamic. So far, he's not the MVP like some people suggesting he should be. In a conversation and he should be MVP and blah blah blah blah. I just think we get too caught up on moments and circumstance. Has he played great well, a great run so far?
Chris?
Yes, he just start out that great in the series shooting wise at least, but he turned it around, got them there, and if a series could make the difference, say that Nicks lose this series.
Would anybody say he was a superstar?
No?
And that's when when it's that can be turned on a dime, you know what I mean, Chris, Like it could be turned on a dime in one series. You're not a superstar. I don't know why if Philly went still a superstar right right? Like, it doesn't exactly and you get what I'm saying, And a lot of people don't understand that it doesn't. It doesn't go series by series. If you play, well, oh he's a superstar guy. Oh, Devin Bookers Kobe Bryant. And I'm not knocking Devin Booker, but that's what happened, right Chris.
When they wanted to verge, wasn't it? Yeah? He was Kobe. He's the next Kobe Bryant. I have not heard that mentioned since.
Well, Rob, I agree with you that he is not a superstar. Jalen Bronson and I think there are many a lot of things.
I want to hit this from one.
Typical New York Rob and you're from there, and you know what I'm talking about.
Everything in New York is magnified.
Everything We mentioned it all the time, or you do at least Jeremy Lynn. Jeremy Lynn had a month, had a month, and he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated back to back weeks. Would that have happened had he been playing in Milwaukee, Sacramento. No, But everything is magnified in New York and New Yorkers. That's the media, where obviously is the biggest country city in the country. The media, Rob, you know, they have a lot of influence in the national media. A lot of the national media worked in New York and New York, right, yeah, and they got the celebrity fans and so everybody. I heard Jay Williams, who I respect, former player Rob.
You know, he said today that he got caught up.
Here you go super He thinks eventually j Jalen Brunson could go down as the greatest nick ever.
Oh god, stop stop, I mean, Rob.
You can't make much of a more Chris Crazier statement.
Wait a minute, Wait a minute, Yes you can.
Because when U don'ka was hired as the Celtics coach, he said, stop the press as they hired a black coach.
Do you remember that? Oh yeah, yeah, okay, So that that was the and they.
Bill Russell, though, was the first Black in the sixties, and Casey Jones won championships and twenty championship well the twenty eight or twenty ten a long time.
More than My point is, yes, I can heard something more ridiculous this.
Well, I'm just gonna throw these names out when there's no explanation needed. Walt Fraser, Willis Reed, Patrick Ewing, Bernard King, Carmelo Anthony. I mean, let's just slow down. So there's that New York angle. We're not Rob, and I aren't falling for it. Okay, Secondly, Rob.
Here's the deal, Jalen Brunson.
If he Rob was a lottery pick or had been a lottery pick, if he came right into the league and pretty much set it on fire his first, second or third year, then maybe you would only need a couple of, you know, performances like this.
But no, he was a second round pick.
He spent the first four years of his career as a role player, and now has had for these last two years been a star.
Rob.
But you just said it, you don't. It's like Brock Purty, and you know, I like brock Purty. I've never once called him a superstar, cause you when your pedigree is like that, mister relevant.
Obviously Brunson wasn't that.
But when you don't come with the huge Ballyhood, highly touted pedigree.
Then people are like, look, I need to see more.
CJ.
Stroud's the the Rob. What we will demand to see if c J. Stroud will not be nearly as much or nearly as long as what we have to see from Rock Purty to determine superstar status, would you agree with me on that?
Absolutely?
And even something he was a top pick, right, I mean, if CJ. Strouder, if Trevor Lawrence Rob had done what Brock Purty's done already, everybody be calling him a superstar.
So there's that and then Rob.
Even sometimes when you do have the pedigree, it doesn't work this fast. Trey Young lottery pick led the nation and scoring and assist in college. Rob came right into the league, putting up basically twenty and ten. The third year, leads Atlanta to the playoffs. They go to the Garden and he has some Reggie Miller moments, hushes the Garden crowd.
Next round takes out.
Joe El Embiid, and Embiid played all seven games the healthiest we've seen em beat in.
The playoffs, even though I'm sorry.
Next round faces Milwaukee, which Rob would go on to win the championship, face Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference finals, take them six games, and throughout all of that, Rob Trey Young averages twenty nine points and nine dimes.
Is he a superstar? No, he's not. He's not a super thank you. It's the star player and the year. He's not a superstar.
So how in the world, I mean, with all the Jalen's great and I'm not saying he can't become a superstar one day, Rob, but not right now.
No, they're in the second.
Round like that, in the second round Rocket where a year ago?
And if he gets them to the conference finals again, does that make you a superstar?
Coman coming?
They're not in the title mix, so slow down. It's what he's doing. But no, he's not yet a superstars.
It's always the overreaction and we talk about it all the time.
Can you win, Chris? Before we crown you?
We always can you win something at least to give us to be like, you know what, that dude, that dude want something you. People wanted to question the joker Chris and his MVPs. Right, okay, yeah, that's nice. One of the MVPs. It didn't win anything, all right? That last year went a historic postseason run. Is there any question about him anymore?
No? No?
And then the guys that do become superstars without winning, I mean Luca super Snow, there are something. The numbers are out of this world. Jannis was a superstar before he went numbers out of this world. So slow down on Jalen. We need to see a little more. We might need to see a lot of more before we give him that title. But he's still a great player.
Let's see.
He's facing Tyreese Halliburton, who awoke from the dead last night.
And uh we will see what.
He can do against Halliburton in this series with the Pacers, I do think the Knicks win that Rob, you got them winning.
I'm taking the Pacers. Wow, Okay, I'm not mad at you, but I got taken the Pacers. I don't know. I think they might have gotten their mojo back. Chris. You know we already know Rick Carlos is a good coach. We say that. I think he's a good coach. Won a championship.
I saw him coach up front he is with even without with or without the title.
He's a good Yep, he was. He's a good coach. I covered him, Chris when he played for the Nets. Can you believe that.
You are? Yeah?
I can believe New Jersey look at us. I can't get over it.
Like Darvin Hair covered, Rick cal covered as players like it's just crazy to me.
But anyway, Ilu recovered. God.
But you know before the the in season tournament, Chris, they had something going.
Oh no, they were.
I mean Tyrese Halliburton is the key because he got hurt and came back early.
It hasn't really been the same.
He played well in the closeout game against Milwaukee, so we'll see. I think he's the key, but I'm going with the Knicks in this one. But we'll see a seven seven ninety nine on Fox that'll turn the way in. Is Jalen Brunson a superstar? Simple question? Your thoughts?

On Fox You're.
Turn the way in is Jalen Brunson, Nick's starting All Star point guard, a superstar.
Your thoughts all.
Right, Chris, let's kick it off with Ricky and Florida. You're on the odd couple. Fox Sports Radio.
What's up Ricky?
What's up Rob? Chris?
Long time?
Thanks for taking my call.
How are you? How's mom doing?
Mom's good. The cancer came back. But it is the nine about a year ago today that I started calling you guys when things are getting a little dark, and I thank you guys for that in your prayers, and things are good, her spirits.
Are good, awesome. I appreciate you.
As far as the question goes, not yet, you know, not yet, so it's a work in progress. Superstar to me is someone that you know, almost internationally known. He's got to get some All Stars on his bucket, maybe a couple of chips. You need some help on that team later on. But he's making a name for himself. But you know, he's got to be a starter as an All Star. He's got to get to the get to the finals. But he's doing pretty well. You know, I'm in New Yorker down here in Florida watching it and I'm rooting.
So now I'm playing great. But I agree with you and that's what even from a New Yorker.
Yeah, I mean, I don't think it's a it's a disrespect to him at all. John in New Hampshire, you're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up John.
That you we're hanging in there? Not a superstar yet, by no means. I think you could compare him a lot to Isaiah Thomas with the Celtics six seven years ago. Remember Isaiah Thomas was a top five MVP candidate, the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals, right, I mean, an over achieving team, wonderful story. He's got a superstar and as far as the greatest Nick ever. Michael goes to Walt Fraser. I'm basically in the same age group as you guys, and I grew up a Celtics fan. I'm no longer a Celtics fan. I'm a Lebron fan. But Walf Fraser used to kill the Celtics of the postseason. He was essentially James Harden on the offensive ends and an elite defensive.
You underrated. I agreed that Fraser's the best.
Hey, John, you know what was so bad about the Isaiah Thomas from the Celtics I forgot. Remember he he didn't get the content of injury and he got he came back and never ye, and they never took play.
That's what we always talk about.
You can't do it like you're trying to be the hero for the team, come back early on an injury, and he never got paid.
Yeah, I mean he had the hip injury, like Chris said, he had a tooth knocked out I think in Game one of the Eastern Conference Finals, and it just came a few weeks after his beloved sister passed away.
In a car accident.
I mean, everything went bad against the poor guy. He was sitting on a major contract and quite frankly, you know, it took one place wrong time, and he's been trying to make that comeback. But I think Brunson eventually could probably have a better career than Isaiah Thomas, a little bit bigger of a player. But I think they're pretty comfortable. As always fellas always enjoyed listening to you guys.
That's a great call, right, John Thomas. I mean the season he had that year, I can't remember exactly the year I had him fourth on my official MVP bound Ye. He was that good and but yeah, he wasn't a superstar.
He was in our Chris Our Media NBA Media Beat boot camp at usc a couple of summers ago. So I got to work with him. He's trying to do some TV work. You know, we do a Blake camp.
Were playing, Yeah right now, he was.
Doing you know, in the off season, they guys come in and do it. Tim Chili, Tim, that is in Atlanta. You're on the eye couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up?
You know, right up?
What's up doing?
Oh man, I'm doing great, doing great?
Man.
My definition of a superstar. Okay, So take like this, bro, I'm a season ticket holder for the Atlanta Grades, right, so I may.
Give man after my own heart.
My man, I may give out some tickets to the game, but you better believe when the Dodgers comes to town, I'm holding those tickets like I'm holding Jesus Christ. You know what I'm saying. So my definition of a superstar is that no matter what, even if your team sucks, you're gonna pay that money to come see that guy play. Yes, you know, and it's not just about your hometown that you're playing in, but anywhere Like Steph Curry, or lebron or.
Right their box office, their box office.
There you go, that's my definition of a superstar. He's not there yet.
No, that's fair, A lot of good grateful the callers. Yeah, absolutely absolutely, it.
Is the odd couple Chris and Rob Rob G.
Where you at on this Rick Brunson superstar j.
I covered it.
It really depends on what your definition of it.
What is your definition? Rob G? He's I don't know what definition.
I think there's only five superstars that.
Makes him with you, and obviously he's not one of them. But I don't know of a legitimate of course, anybody can say anything, but I don't.
Can you guys give me a legitimate.
Definition of a superstar that would put Jalen Brunson in it.
You would have to say he is an all NBA player, m VP level player, which he is. He puts up he is this year this year, right, Uh, he puts up big numbers and he his play directly leads to his team winning games. That's how you can make the case for Jalen Brunson.
Julius Randall I could have said the same things about now, not necessarily in the playoffs couple of years ago, but yeah, Julius, we made. He's made more than I think one all NBA.
I mean, well, playoffs matter more than regular season.
Yeah, but I mean regular season is big. There are guys, I mean, Nbad has done nothing in the playoffs.
He's a superstar.
I don't think he is.
He's a superstar. I mean, okay, you got five, that's fine. Yeah, but he's a superstar.
Dominique Wilkes never got our second round superstar, rob Dominique.
You got real fluid definition then no.
No, but he was boxing.
You wouldn't know because you were the word board.
Was the clearest box office, like you went to go see Dominique.
Okay, so I'm gonnaun and that's part of it too, like your game, Vince Carter was a superstar.
Anybody I'm gonna I'm gonna run down a list of names quickly before we get to that date and then you guys let me know super like yes or no? Jason Tatum, Yes, Yes, Dame was Donovan Mitchell.
Mike's are on? I want people to mis.
Halliburton No, not yet, Embid, Yes, Jimmy Butler, no, Tree Young No, s g A Yes, obviously, Jamal Murray no, and Edwards yes, yes, Kawhi Leonard yes, I mean yeah, yeah, James Harden.
Yeah, I mean now he's past his prime, he's not what he used to be. But absolutely no, there's no question, Rob g you would disagree at this point.
Yes, I think I think maybe he was.
Well, I mean yeah, I mean, you don't judge anybody, really demise, but.
Sure he's Paul George. And while we're on the same I mean Westbrook right right.
So NBA level.
I don't know that i'd say George is a superstar or or was he Luca yes, Kyrie.
Yes, Anthony Davis.
I don't know about Kyrie. Anthony Davis, yes.
Devin Booker.
No, I'll say no, uh.
Dearon Fox No, Steph Curry.
Yes, no, I'm sorry, John Moran, nobody believes job.
That was just I mean, he's got his issues, but I would say yeah, so so okay.
But I think it is the.
Point of this exercise is to prove I'm very exclusive. Rob is reasoning will be exclusive, and Chris.
Has like thirty guys that he's I mean, who say no, But seriously, who did I say that? Rob didn't say? Rob said John Moran that's it. Ja Morant, Steph Curry. I mean he Rob knows he's playing with Kyrie Irving. I didn't say, Drop said Kyrie is. I said, I'm not sure.
It's just it's just me Barries person to person for sure.
But I'm saying you're coming about being Rob. It really wasn't that much different. There is something, Yeah, it really is right.
It's an art, not a science. And then and then and then we get up way to say it. You know what I mean, you.
Just kind of know, right, it's like rapping.
I mean, there are there are a lot of dudes that can put words together, but something about some of them that differentiates them.
All right, it's the odd couple. Christ and Rob. We got Carrie Kittles around the corner.
But first, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live.
Our next guest got theme music.
Former NBA veteran now Fox Sports Radio MBA analyst.
Our man, Carrie Kittles carry, What's up?
What's going on? Fellos? How you're doing?
How are you? We are?
Good man we're good. Let's start in New York.
Now.
We just saw what Jalen Brunson did and it was fantastic, and that those playoffs.
I want to ask you a different type of question.
Though The Athletic did a story they interviewed a bunch of players over one hundred, about one hundred close to one hundred and fifty anonymously about various things. One thing they asked them was favorite arena or best arena to play in, and Madison Square Garden was number one. I want to ask you, and I don't know if you played a playoff game there, but I remember I was covering the Knicks when you and Jason Kidd and Kenya Martin and all those guys were playing for the Nets. Richard Jefferson and y'all would come in and just take over, throwing alley oops and dunk it.
It was ridiculous. But what what was.
It like playing What is it like playing in Madison Square Garden And is it really different than maybe any other arena, especially.
If you played the playoff game there. Like I said, I don't know if you did.
Yeah, there's there to me. The only thing that came close to playing in Madison Square Garden was my rookie year playing in Chicago Stadium against the Bulls. Obviously that was that was and there was still in their prime in the in the mid nineties. But yeah, other than that, there's nothing like the Garden. I would just say just theer in the building. It speaks to the fans and they're knowledge of the game and how they follow the sport. They know everything about every player and they're just passionate fans that really love basketball, a lot different than the Stickers fans, a lot different than the Celtics fans. It's just the energy in the buildings, the celebrity that's the court side. It's everything combining to one. And then when you're playing against a really competitive mix scene, you're like I did back in the nineties and now how they are now is nothing like the Garden.
And Carrie, what about the lighting. Chris and I talk about this all the time. It's like a Broadway stage where the house, the crowd is dark. For people who have never been to Madison Square Garden and just the court is lit up. What is that like most places? The lights you're on everywhere.
Yeah, it's a cool feeling. I mean as a player. It starts when you walk, you come in the building. Sometimes you smell the animals from the circus, the locker room is. Back then, it was crappy for the guests.
Oh yeah, bad.
So it was bad. It was bad the showers or bad everything about it. It was like and just like so yeah, it was all of that combined the announcer with the deep voice and the Oregon in the background. It was all of that. The city dancers, all of that just made the experience from a player's perspective, just very unique.
Let's go here.
I want to go to Darvin Ham, and I mean his resume is not warring him being fired. They could do whatever they want, the Lakers, But how many coach are to keep firing.
Vogel won a championship, they fired him.
They hung up a batter for the end season tournament just three or four months ago. With Darvin Ham, he went to the Western Conference finals last year.
None of it is good enough? Is this warranted?
Or when do the players or lebron take the mic and stand up and take some responsibility.
Yeah. I think at a certain point you have to look yourself in the mirror. If you are Lebron. I mean, everyone keeps saying, we don't know if it's sure he's the guy that's orchestrating the rosterbus right, you get rid of Kuzmua, you get rid of Caruso, you get rid of KCP. You know, great role players that complemented Lebron very well. The bottom line is this, guys, Lebron James is just not that facilitated anymore that he used to be. Lebron James used to make everybody on his team better and he's just not that type of player anymore. He still gets his numbers, you know, and he's still playing great for his aid, but he's not making everyone on the court better when he's out there, and I think that that just makes the job that much harder for the rest of the guys, including a d who we've seen, you know, right fade away in clutch moments and not be that second sidekick. So the person now to me is on the players. It's really just and Lebron make everyone better. Otherwise you're gonna keep firing coaches, You're gonna trade Anthony Davis. What are the next moves?
Right?
Because I think they would have had a shot at beating pretty much anybody else in the West Carry outside of Denver. Obviously it doesn't matter, and we don't know, but I think they would have had a shot. But let me ask you, let's stay there. I'm picking Minnesota over Denver. I'm a little out there on the limb. I know how good Denver is. I'm concerned a bit about their health. And I'm also looking at Minnesota's defense man. Their defense is to nations best in the league by far, and they've got guys, you know, Jade McDaniels and Anthony Edwards that they can throw at Michael Porter Junior and Jamal Murray. They're not gonna shut them down, but they can certainly guard them a lot better than the Lakers did. Do you how much of a chance do you give Minnesota in this series?
Oh, I give Minnesota a great chance. I like the UH to be honest with you, Chris, I think that they have the limp defensively to be disruptive. They're young, you know, Like going in that altitude with those young guys, they ain't gonna start to lace them up to the neck. Game two to me, is gonna be a critical game. Game one is always a feel you out kind of game. But Game two and Tim, Tim bet not lose at home. They better not lose at home because if they do, they're in trouble. I like Minnesota's chances obviously, right the emergence of a man and what he does. Kat Towns is back now he's healthy. They have the size and the lenses be disruptive, and I think Dems, we have to work on our farm for real. I think, like you mentioned Minnesota's defense, look at what they did against the Lakers. I mean they just they just take you out of it with their with their lift and yeah, I mean I love at Man's emergency. I think he's a superstar right now in the making.
Let me ask you this. You mentioned the out to what what is that like? I mean, do you really feel it as a player and feel it?
Feel what?
You get winded? Quack? It takes two or three trips up the court and you're like, what is going on? You're not used to that, and you're like, what happened? I know, I'm in great shape. I mean I've been playing all season long, and like I don't even up and down the court two or three times a dead ball and I'm like I'm like sucking air and so like, yeah, it's real, man, it's real. You get light headed, sometimes, your legs get heavy. I mean you're not used to it. I mean it's it's an experience from a player's perspective, and so I look forward to seeing how those young guys respond to that, and I think that they'll they'll do well there. They'll do well there. I mean, those guys are really mcdowiel's in particular with KCP matchup. It's gonna be fun to watch. So yeah, I like this. I like it's gonna be it's gonna be a great series. I have it going six or seven for sure. Do you have Oh, I got Minnesota.
So do you have them coming out of the West.
Yeah. Man, I like what I saw it. I like what I saw against Phoenix. I mean, Jeff, was it that time you've seen a.
Young player, like a man, step up to a veteran player talk trash and then back it up.
Here's the thing. He changes the game with his defensive and he plays hard on both ends. We don't see that with these young players. Oh man, and he's got a mouthpiece behind it. I'm taking Minnesota in the West.
I agree with you on him quickly?
Does he remind you everybody's making the Jordan comparisons. Obviously we're not saying he's gonna be as good as Jordan, but he does remind you of him.
Yes, Yes, you see the athleticism, You see the tenacity, you see the focus. Look at his face. Do you see fear at all? And he goes wherever he wanted, the slashing ability to get to the rim and to explode in traffic, and his physicality. Right, he's a physical young player.
I love it, all right, that's our man, Carrie Kittles always brother, have a good weekend.
Are you too? Thank you? I appreciate it.

All right, it's the odd couple Chris and Rob live from the tie rag dot com studios.
It's time for shop talk.
That's right in his shop talk here on the acable Fox Sports Radio saying, where we talk about something happen outside of the world is sports. This week's topic comes to us from Hollyweird, where Tiffany Hattish, who is no stranger to controversy, either due to her acting choices or her stand up comedy or due to her pensions for getting dui. She's gotten at least two of them at least, and I couldn't more than There could be more than that that we don't know about. But she did interview with Variety magazine and she talked about how she deals with the trolls on social media who come at here for a number of reasons. And during her answer, she said, one thing that she's begun to do is she pays for this service that's a dollar ninety nine that will give you people's credit reports, police records, address phone number, and so on and so forth, and she will actually reach out to the commenters directly to let them know that she didn't appreciate what they said about her. Rob Parker, you got a lot of hate on social media?
Is in this world?
Huh?
Is she going too far with this one?
Of course she's going too far. Just block them.
It's my Twitter, and I'll block if I want to block, if I want to.
Just block.
You don't need to go through all that go through getting people's credit reports and all that. That just sounds ridiculous.
