Don't forget.

We're also gonna mention and talk about Ricky Henderson, who passed away this past weekend, sixty five years old, the all time major league leader and stolen bases.

Will do that.

That's coming up this hour as well. But the interesting thing we know this.

You know last week you proclaimed that he's been about three now that it's done well, but I'm just saying the latest money. You know, Josh Allen, it's his he's the MVP. It's all over. I said, no, it's not over yet, right, I think so. I thought the door was still open and he had a couple of games that could help him, and I mean him being Lamar Jackson, And I thought if he could beat the Steelers and play well, which he normally struggles with right, which is a feather in his cap, which he did three touchdowns, one pick, had a really good win, a big win, big big win because now they're tied in the division, they can win the division now. Uh So that was big and now they play the Texans right on Christmas.

What's coming up, and that's a good thing. If it was.

That's another if you remember last year, I bring it up all the time, nine Ers, that's when he won the MVP last year.

Remember on Christmas.

Night it was him Brock Perdy.

And then he had a big game and blew out the forty nine ers and that kind of I think a lot of people saw that. So if he could have another big game against the Texans, he could really be in a good spot. And then on the flip side, your guy Josh Allen had a against the Patriots.

You saw the numbers just weren't that good.

Right, So, but this is where so first off, I have said them a thousand times and people have gone crazy on social media saying how crazy I am and even you are for thinking that Lamar Jackson is better than Josh Allen, which is what I keep saying, Lamar Jackson. Let me make this clear, Ryan, you got it up, Alex my mic up. Lamar Jackson's best player in the NFL. Okay, I've been saying it all year. But I also know how voting goes, storyline goes, narratives go for an MVP. And that's in the NBA, that can be in baseball. That's just the way it is. We know the best player doesn't always win. Michael Jordan would have had way more MVP awards if it were simply that, but that's not the case. The issue, this is what we talked about rob My thing was that in order for Josh to be surpassed, he would have to have a Rob Parker extreme bad game where you're like, what if he has a horrible one.

Two picks is you know, only eighty yards? But this wasn't that.

This was a game, and a game to me does it didn't have Lamar passing him For some people, he still got the better record, which ultimately is but they probably gonna be the thing that.

Makes but they also played head half and Lamar. Lamar won and he looked better. I just think for where it's not like Josh Allen for sure two games. It's two games, but it's going to require him to have had a loss to the Patriots and a horrible game two pick six is something something and you lost to the games to the Patriots. But he actually the Bills have the easiest record or easiest schedule the Roman. But that's the scary part and the bad or don't play well like he did against the Patriots right now now, when Lamar played the bad Giants, he had five touchdowns, he had a ridiculous pass away.

Do you see what I'm saying, Like, like, that's what you're.

Supposed that's what you're supposed to do with bad team against and in this case, this is one. He's got two more bad games and you can't have another clunker or bad outing or like you say. All I'm saying is if Lamar lights up the Texans and throws four touchdowns, no kicks right, and has a really big game on Christmas with everybody watching all of a sudden right, and they win their eleventh game, don't forget that. Lamar's story and narrative is they started the season oh and two. Teams that start oh and two, Ryan, look it up, teams that start oh and two in the NFL, they don't make the playoffs that often. Fit's a small number, and that's why that's so impressive.

We said it, we said, we knew it. We both said.

It's just they could have beaten the game one against the Chiefs and just I got we were texting little group chat.

I'm like, how do you beat Lamar?

And Derek k I can't believe it actually lost five games, Like, because when you watch them at their best or even at their most solid, you're like, well, how do you beat them? Lamar is doing video games Scramble SCRAMs scrambo, that's flicking it thirty five yards across the field to catch touchdown. And then Derrick Henry, You're like, dude, do you know you're old for running back age? What are you doing running for about sixty two out running defensive backs and you're sixty three to sixty Like, that's not supposed to be happening, and the defense is starting to pick up a little bit. That was a big win for them against the Steelers because they wasn't a field goal or at the end, they look dominant and heading towards the right time of the season. That's where you want to be, right So to your point, maybe larger than even just simply an MVP, because at the end of the day, let's say he doesn't win an MVP, Lamar ultimately he wants to get that monkey off his back and get to a super Bowl, And obviously you want to get there and hopefully win, but at least get there. So if they can start picking up playing right at the right time of the season, which is obviously what most folks do as you start gearing up the ones who end up winning ultimately, if they can start doing that, that'll be huge for them, man, because this can start to really ex out those things that they said he couldn't do. They said Lamar couldn't pass. He's in passing high on QB. Already said he couldn't make big throws. He's made big throws. He has to have X, Y and Z either. Well, he had a bunch of guys in here last year and still won a bunch of games. He can't beat guy Derek Henry still can't be the Steelers beating the Steelers. So to me, this is going great for them as they're heading towards the postseason. But Josh Allen is literally to me, it's his. All you got to do is hold it. Be what you've been. You don't have to even be exceptional. You don't have to make any more Superman plays. You've made enough of those. I call them Heisman moments. Even though it's CMVP, Josh Allen has enough Heisman moments. He has a better record and also, but that's it.

Lamar leads in every number I know and every single need his own MVP season last year, and that's that's the part that's so crazy, is when the voters look at and you remember it's a it's a total season.

So there were moments.

Had they had they voted after he beat the Chiefs, you know, didn't, he would have won. There's no doubt in my mind. But as you go further along, and this is what I was trying to bring up about last year, is that that game on Christmas Night with the whole country watching. You know that that's what people look at, and what people will see on Wednesday will be like wow, Lamariland and then you'll see the eye popping numbers and he's leading in every category.

And they just were their eleventh game. Do you know what I'm saying?

Like the number for Dudo they said couldn't pass, he's completing sixty eight percent of his passes. He has thirty seven we'll just call it almost thirty eight hundred, will say yards, thirty has three hundred three, seven hundred and eighty seven yards. He has thirty seven passing touchdowns, thirty seven passing with two games to go. Correct and then you start to all yet because he is a dual threat. Well, what has he been doing on the ground, Calvin, Well, I'll tell you. On the ground, he has seven hundred and sixty five yards plus another three touchdowns, So, I mean it's been remarkable what he's done. And again he's surpassing last season where he won.

Uh.

If you're looking at interceptions, he only has what is it three?

Four? One more one?

Yes, he had four, so he's at four. And then we talked about the first three.

All three came off of receivers. All you look at josh are numbers are amazing as well, but they're not Lamars. I mean, you look at Josh Allen, so look at his up he has completion percentage significantly lower. Well, I'll round it up like I did. Lamhas sixty four percent.

Okay, so sixty eight to sixty four.

Thirty five under passing yards. Lamar has thirty eight twenty six passing touchdowns. Lamar has thirty seven, and obviously you start to look at uh, let's see here we go the interceptions. He has six, yeah, six interceptions Lamar, yep, and then he does have a bunch of rushing touchdowns, so.

You do got he has a lot of eleven to three.

Yeah, he has a bunch of rushing eleven to three in that regard.

So I mean they're both having amazing season, separate of themselves of the other person, I should say, but Lamar is just having an insane But I told you, I think he's making look easy itis. He has make it look easy itis where you start to take it for granted, where he was like, oh yeah, just oh yeah, this is Lamar. Hey man, did you know Lamar had three touchdowns? And oh yeah, that's what he do. Make it look easy itis on the real thing, right.

The only reason I don't buy into what you're saying.

I'm gonna tell you why they gave Brett fav the MVP three years in a row, and you did it and Barry Sanders.

I'm still mad about one a couple of them.

But you you couldn't said, oh, well, they attired voters fatigue. They didn't have voter fatigue for Brett farv Okay and Brett Favre throw a ton of interceptions as well, and they overlooked I.

Do want to look up who was who I know Barry was in at least times. Yeah, one year, But.

I want to know the other couple because meaning were they're as compelling because maybe he was in the league of league by what.

I'm just saying, but still they weren't trying to find somebody else.

He was that guy. And that's if.

You're I'm gonna look that up real quick if you're a voter, though, Ryan looked that up for me.

Who those three years that Brett farv they was like ninety five, six and seven?

Who finished second and third? Like were they? Because I want to.

Know if anybody was even because this is Lamar Jackson's season is at MVP ninety nine point nine percent of the years. This is another MVP year. But what Josh Allen is doing with a team that has u you know, not a not devoid of talent, but doesn't have a bunch. And obviously people his records great, the only team to beat Kansas City, those are the in his favor. But if you get if you're Lamar, you're sitting there like, well, what, I already beat the man. But I just think people My point has always been, I think people are gonna like to look that Josh has a better record, that Josh's team is is playing better. They're the number one in offense outside of the the.

But the better record is Slim and Lamar beat him. He did beat him.

That's the only thing that like, Okay, if you're gonna do that, didn't you though? Who pass that head the head match up? And what was the game against? Was it against the Texans where Josh had sixty yards? Yeah, he had like not eighty ninety yards or something like that. Yeah, it wasn't great. Yeah, he had one of those as well. I had anything.

Those rushing touchdowns are gonna help him obviously, but listen, Yeah, I want to know Ryan, you can tell when we come back if you want, just for time saying you got it, you got him?

I got him.

Yes.

So in ninety five when five one, Jerry Rice finished second, So.

That's a big time player. Yeah, emmen Smith a receiver. You know they ain't gonna give it a receiver.

In ninety six, John Elway finished second, Old Davis third, Jerome bettis fourth, but they were like five and a half votes, two votes, so not much, not much. In ninety seven for Barry Sanders, yeah, yeah, farv to one. Barry sands Berry had two thousand eight year I think that might be.

Yeah, that was thousand.

Yeah.

By the way, Barkley is sitting over here like, hello, y'all not even talking about me.

No, that's the crazy part because and we'll get into that nowur number three, I got a really hot take.

Okay, we'll do that all right.

Eight seven seven ninety nine On Fox Is the door open for Lamar?

Are you with Calvin that it's just still Josh? It's Josh, I'm not.

I'm saying Lamar has to open the door and there's a chance for him to take this MVP on Christmas Night against the Texans.

Saying that's his Christmas gift to.

Here it is and he did it last Christmas?

Will you who's the MVP?

But out of these two Okay, we'll talk about Josh and Lamar Jackson, that's all we're talking about, don't We don't wann't talk about say Quad or anybody else.

Out of these two guys, who is your MVP?

And uh?

To me, it's pretty clear that Lamar has just as good of a chance as Josh Allen to win it. Kelvin says it is Josh's to lose. Eight seven seven ninety nine On Fox eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six, sixty three sixty nine. It is the odd couple on a Magic City Monday. So it's just interesting, all right that these two Syracuse Buffalo.

Yeah, I see what's going on? All right, Ralph and Syracuse. You're on the odd couple. Fox Sports Radio.

What's up?

Hey, what up?

Guys?

Great show?

Yes, thank you, Hey, listen, Lamar got his all right, he's a star.

Great, Lamar got his.

Josh is our hero out here.

You know, he's got a key.

We got a special Josh Allen cereal out here in New York State.

So it's Josh Allen's time.

All right. But that's I like to say.

But I'm asking you about the numbers, like like, like Lamar has better numbers than everygory.

Hey numbers, schmumbers.

You see the highlight reel, you see the snow globe games.

He's getting catching.

You know, he's got those rushing touchdown highlight reel with the with the lateral. He's a superstar. You know it's his time alright.

Hey see, he's just simply told you the time. It's just a time. Well, let's talk to Bert and Baltimore the couple.

Follow Yo, guys, what's up?

We love you?

I got a mess with Santa before Christmas. Is all through the house by the.

Creature of story.

Now even a mouse.

Josh, you got to kill in the couch.

Mar He's the best guy MVP, no doubt.

Now let me tell you this.

That would be a serial killer.

Josh.

It's not in time. It's not about you your time.

It's not did you earn it right?

Josh is great?

Yeah, but you know Lamar four and five game on line, our locker rooms, Shumier flies the all trough weapons that can't be stopped. Bringing menimite to me is make him drop.

Mary's opportunity.

He's the quarterback.

He became a wiseman. Mark got the his and should have been two. It's not about that at the combine. This scout's guy's fine.

He wouldn't run.

No, Rather, at that that's that.

Lamar is the man. He look our defense was working on it at the beginning of the year.

Lamar our team should be like like almost undefeated.

Lamar's done his job.

He's an incredible he's a way of having Josh.

You don't do a guy because you finished. Oh he hasn't got it?

No, all right, all right, I agree with that.

Thank you. Bert appreciated us and agg now l a little bit. Steve get It get a little excited.

But let me let me let me Ryan no Get did the research and gave us to the numbers we talked about.

Thanks Ryan.

Here it is from nineteen seventy to twenty and twenty two, thirty nine of the four hundred and seven teams that started oh and two made the playoffs.

So it's like nine percent. So it's not it doesn't happen.

All the time. And we knew despite the O and two start, anybody would do it. It'd be them.

They would be It's not even far feester that they could not only just make the playoffs, they can mess around and win the Super Bowl.

Like that's not as I gonna say.

If the defense gets better, like continues to get bad, they just need to be a Detroit Lions type defense lately, not against the Bills, but just meaning Ben don't break because our offense is gonna do.

What we do.

That kind of thing.

Andrew in Bakersfield, California, you're on the odd couple.

Up, Andrew, what's up, guys?

Merry Christmas?

What's up buddy?

All right?

I just want to make it quick on voter fatigue. I got a top five list of top sports history travesties, and my number six honorable mention is when Kobe didn't get the MVP Steve nash one or two years and people would chant MVP whenever he touched the ball, and we're still chanting MVP.

Yeah, those were that was Steve nash Will Steve that he took one from Shack. A lot of people failed he took one from Kobe, but but they split the vote because they were both great on the same team. And also too, you know, Steve Nashy's doing is getting those teams of that number one seed and change the style of play too.

Andrew, where are you on this one?

I think you got to wait till the end of the season and if the Chiefs remain undefeated, you got to include the fact that the Bills were the only team to beat the Chiefs.

But but but what if what if here he here? Just hear me out, Andrew, what if he has a stinker? Seriously, in these last two games against a bad team, Lamar finishes strong in the last two beats. The Texans looks impressive in front of a national TV audience on Christmas. And all the numbers are better, all the except for the rushing touchdowns. All the numbers are better. How do you deny guy who won an MVP last year with far less numbers.

Well, whoever deserves it should get it.

Okay, Well, day.

Man, you know what we need more?

So that was so simplating the life. Uh that don't work.

Life that don't work in the house. So, hey, Ryan, don't tell you your lady that, Hey, baby, I deserve it. No, don't listen to him. Andrew, gonna have you on the couch real quick. Dre in Massachusetts. You're on the Great Fox Sports Radio.

What's up?

What's going on?

Guys? Jackie Allais. I'm glad to hear the eggnog And it seems like.

Some of the copito was floating.

Oh coming out there with Ryan's you know, all the rest of that stuff is good. Look, I have to concur it is it is shosh Allen to lose and lamar that that's the thing. It is the voter fatigue that's holding him back from getting this MVP. His numbers are cound for pound a little bit better. I think people want to spread the well. And the third person that would throw in there is Jared Goffer. What he's doing with the Detroit I don't.

I don't think he's I really I think Saquan has a better shot than Jared.

I think, all yeah, I really do.

I just oh, no, he does, he does, But I I he might shock us with some votes because of the entertainment value. I mean, they've been the most, if not the most entertaining team in all the football.

But they've also he's also had the three touchdowns and sixty five yard games. I'm saying, Jared golf, no for sure, and what do you know about that team? They're running football team.

They ain't running no more.

No, that's the thing his But no, he won't win it, but he's been so fun and people are gonna honor the two they've only lost twice people listen. I think people forget that matters in mv pople. If that's the case, didn't.

Every year Donald would Sam Donald would get votes. He might get one. He might I don't see.

I don't think Jared Golf is gonna be No. I'll tell you the final Raking and I think mar is gonna be third. I think it's gonna be josh A Kwan Lamar. That's gonna be the three. I'm telling you No and Josh and you're gonna be shocked how Jared Golf is gonna be right next to him? All Right, we had Rod Woodson in just a moment. But right now, Steve the Seger is gonna tell me. You know what's the best part about this show is that we get to come back for proof of performance. I tried to tell my partner earlier in the year about Russell Wilson should be the quarterback for the Steelers.

He didn't buy into it. I try to partner that this would be the year that Dodgers get it done. Try to listen to me, Steve, Mom and Dad.

The Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio. Dot Com and than the iHeart radio app search FSR to listen live.

He is Rod Woodson, Hall of Fame defensive back, Fox Sports Radio NFL analyst Rod rod Woodson twenty six on Twitter. What's up right, Rod? He got us, I said, Rod, robbing and the agnaw too. There he is, Yes, here, we got you. Now, how are you, buddy? I was concerned you was a an adult agnog Rod.

No, I'm doing I'm doing good.

Hey, let's start here because I'm saying the doors open for Lamar to win the MVP. I know everybody wants to give it to Josh Allen. Big game Saturday against the Steelers. Oh, he can't beat the Steelers. He played really well.

Where are you on?

Just he continues to play well, keeps winning these games. If they beat the Texans to me and he plays well again on Christmas night, I think he has a shot at it.

Listen. I believe that Lamar Jackson is one of the top two quarterbacks of the National Football League, the other guys in Kansas City. Lamar has proven in his gross uh he got a living game. He doesn't have to be the superman in the run game and in the past game so what he's done this year and taking care of the football, throwing the football at justin defenses he can steal, do damage with the seed if he has to. But the one thing I love about him, what he really has done well is he's throwing the ball extremely well from the pocket and he's taking care of the football. If you look at the four interceptions he had that was that they took away, three of them were like dynamic interceptions, right.

Yeah, reivers right off the receivers.

Right yeah.

And so you know, I I believe that he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league. You know, I know he's gonna he's gonna deflect because he really doesn't really care about the MVPs. He won a Super Bowl. He wants to go to the game playing that game. Have an opportun going to be the wind up a Super Bowl ring.

Well, somebody he might have to run into. Is starting to get some weapons back. You got the checko came a couple of weeks back for the Chiefs. Now they got Hollywood Brown coming back. They're starting to worthy, starting to look like really just even more and more of a star. How scary are the Chiefs now that they're starting to get healthier and getting playing better at the end of the season.

Heading into the watch the last game, he thought they were great. I said, I don't think.

I don't think they've played it.

Chiefs had him like that. He didn't want to talk about the Chiefs. Now. I was saying, brother, they're getting healthier, but that didn't look that good to me. I want to hear what Rod said.

Yeah, yeah, I don't. I don't think just because all the guys are coming back. Let's you know, the Checko is their number one guy. He runs hard. Yes, Hollywood Brown.

Is speed guy.

We know we can get on top of the defenses. I get it, But this team has ran by their defense. I mean they're winning football games because the defensive played really good football throughout the van security of this season. And then their offense they make one to two to three plays and somebody who's you know, you got a rapid fleet in their pocket type play at the end.

Of the game.

They've won games and they and you've got to get the credit for that. Do I believe the the way that matchups are in the league, you know, I believe that I believe Baltimore can beat the Chiefs if they play their best games.

Yeah, clear cut, Like it's not like, oh my god, exactly.

And you know what, Rod, The thing that always sticks with me is the Bills had them beat down in Kansas City and decided to kick the ball off to them rather than I mean, like, like you don't even have to be a football coach.

Am I right, Rod?

They do that again.

I mean like that, like I've.

Seen things happen, which run the ball last year, run the ball last year, and they all the mistakes they made, they didn't get blown out. They shut the Chiefs out in the second half, and they lose by seven. Right, that game was they didn't get blown out by the Chiefs, didn't score, and they had to have Lamar just Ben Lamar run sometimes they flowers fumbles at the one yard line.

Right, I mean, I don't think you know, you go back to the opening game of the year for the Ravens. This offense wasn't even the offense the way it looks today, right, And the defense and the defense because the defensive played in the last four weeks they have played life out football, only given up about one hundred and sixty nine yards in the air per game, so They've done a tremendous job, and that was the key. The key was, Okay, offense, we know they could score on any defensive National Football League defensively if they can just get to the middle of the pack and they're moving in that direction. So I think they're going to be a dangerous team. I don't know if anybody wants to face the Baltimore Ravens wants the postseason gets here, because how do you how do you handle Labar Jackson and Derreck Hendley?

Right, you didn't have that last year.

That's absolutely yeah, that's that's a that's a tough order to Let me ask you about the Lions trick play against the Bears. And the only thing that I've heard and I tend to agree with is why why there you're up by fourteen or thirteen or fourteen against a bad team, you know, like the Bears, Why why show that when you don't have to? Like, like, that's not the spot to me? Now, that's that's on everybody's Weightar, do you understand what I'm saying, Like, like, why would you waste that in the a in a game where you're up by two touchdowns?

You know, I know they don't have another trick play, you know when you're talking about the one when they act like they're following down.

Yeah, right right.

First of all, shame on the defensive backs from the linebackers. Believe I'm biting that. It's not your job, everybody, ain't you run.

It's your job to carry these.

Guys all the way through. He's been if the quarterbacks on the ground and the depit the lineman jobs touching down. So if they fail, you know, but yeah, you know, I think they'll have another one. They had that set up already. They wanted to run it. They were going to run it somewhere in the game. Everybody knew it on that team. Everybody knew it, so I wouldn't be surprised somewhere along the line in the postseason they have one more of those funky plays that try to catch the defense sleeping.

Yeah, Ben Jhonson, he dreams up plays like that all night, So I'm not worried about them. They'll come up with another one as well. Have you seen it where let me ask you, if the conference or the division where the Lions are, what twelve and two, thirteen and two? You got the Vikings sitting there the same record, and then you got we're watching right now the Packers sitting at ten and four. Who knows at the end of this game, would it'll be where you might have three teams make it from the same division or have these high records.

Have you seen anything like this recently?

No?

I mean, I mean, first of all, you know, we thought Detrot was going to be good, but did anybody think Minnesota was gonna be this?

That's why he could Coach of the Year and nobody picked the Minnesota Vices.

I mean, if you would have made a wager at the Game of the year, what was there to win the division? Hundred?

Oh, well, you're right, I don't know what it was. And they got a shot. Don't they have the tiebreaker? Yeah? Well yeah, no, No, Lions have the tiebreaker, do they?

Yeah, Lions beat them in Minnesota, but they have they play each other, right, but I think, yeah, they play again. If they would have win that game, I think they win the division. There's some other tiebreaker in there.

The Lions would have the point differential. I don't know. It's just weird how it's like eight things that can make it work.

It'd be common to it be divisional or divisional opponents, and then confidence and then it goes to.

Those right, yeah, yeah, there's something.

There's something that I read somewhere's one of the ways they Yeah, yeah, but.

It's it's unbelievable where they are. I agree with you.

I had them for last place. People even thought the best. I mean, shoot people. Yeah, it's just been remarkable to see. And it won't go away either. It's not like they had all that was a cute season. They ain't mess be the super Bowl. That would ruin everybody. Super Bowl by the way, nobody want to be there with Minnesota right there.

You know what I mean?

Right, America wants Detroit, and America does it. America wants Baltimore and the Eagles. Nobody wants. I mean what I want to see, that's what I want to.

I think. I think.

I think Baltimore playing anybody would be a fun game, no doubt.

Right, we'll fine, we'll take that. Then we'll meet in the middle. Detroit Baltimore. You know we're gonna acting fool if me and if me and him get that, Rob, we'll see you down there. Merry Christmas, Yes.

You and ride man Christmas.

Yeah, the Great Roy Woodson there appreciate his time as always. Speaking of the great, we gotta remember one of the all time greats, and Ricky Henderson, who passed over the weekend. Rob and I will share some thoughts in just a moment. It is the odd couple. Rob Parker, Kevin Washington Fox Sports Radio.

Rob and I Steve de Segre as well, just have a conversation about the late great Ricky Henderson, who passed over the weekend caught everyone by surprise. Obviously his family makes me sixty five years young, gracious and as we all have lived long enough to know, it doesn't matter. What I mean is part of me wanted to go well him. He was an amazing shape. But it doesn't matter if people with an amazing shape who passed, people who we would deem bad shape, they live to be eighty nine years exactly. So you just never know when your time is going to be called. But such sad news, and obviously so many people touched by the way he played or the time that they spent with him in so many different ways they remember him. So I'll start with you, Rob just kind of when you heard the news, you know, your thoughts and then just the times and maybe covering them, just your thoughts on him.

Yeah, you know, obviously I've been covering baseball for almost forty years now, thirty nine years major League baseball, So seeing Ricky Henderson up close and was just a phenomenal player, and he was kind of like a different kind of guy, not a bad guy, but a lot I don't know how many people really got to know him, Steve, you know you've covered a lot of game, am I right, like really got to know him.

But he wasn't a bad guy. No, Ricky just loved him some Ricky right, and everything.

The third per person thing was great, Like everything was always he always said, you know, Ricky being Ricky Ricky and.

You look around like is there another Ricky you you're talking about? Right?

But I think of like what he would do to the stolen based record now with the bases and that you can't throw over more than twice, you.

Know, it's like this guy was unbelievable on the base.

I don't think they would have changed the rule of someone like him so prolific. Seriously, it's like the shack thing, like, all right, well, we can't have three seconds.

And you out of like the Vince Coleman's don't exist now.

Yet you're right, we can't because changed the rule because people stop stealing. You're trying to enhance the you know, hey, go steal. He was so prolific, you'd be all right, well, clearly other people are trying to emulate him, so we wouldn't need that rule because that's how great he was.

And he led the American League in steals eleven of his first twelve years, which we knew of the stolen based king year after year.

No doubt. And he was leadoff home runs right.

At the record for that power and speed which you.

Just don't normally have.

Bobby Bonds used to be the guy right as far as the leadoff home run. He had speed to Barry's father.

And the great thing about the Bay here is this guy went to high school in Oakland and wound up playing for Oakland. Rickey Henderson debuted at age twenty and then when the A's got great, they traded for him and got him back about a decade into his career and he had an MVP season.

It was great.

There are stories left and right about him, some true, some not true. Apparently the John Olerood story not true as good as it is not true, made up by a clubhouse guy that he didn't recognize the teammate one. But there was the other story where he thought Ricky being Ricky, he would get his own full row on the plane and when he walked on, somebody was there and he said, I don't get a whole row by myself, and the manager says, you didn't make a move. You got tenure. He says ten year. I got fifteen years.

Which is great, which I mean, I can see, you know what.

The best one is the when they gave him the million dollar bonus check and he put it up on the wall and a year into like he didn't cat like, He's like, I'm a millionaire.

Here's my check.

I'm a millionaire now right need and they called and they were like, the gave you the last one.

It's like, you got it. We need you to put that in for accounting reasons, counting reasons.

And then he had to take it down, take it to the bank cash and then put up, you know, put up a copy. But the dude had a million dollar check hanging up on cash, not realizing that unless you cash, you you don't.

Have to mind the money. Brother, they said, you have, it's just a piece of paper till it's in the bank account.

And yeah, crazy. So my shot out to my buddy Crystal me or somebody I work with. He gave me this book, uh, maybe a year or so ago, a huge book on Ricky and it just tells a bit about his story, is upbringing, kind of some you know, some troubles here and there growing up and uh, and so I kind of skimmed through it and hadn't had a chance to really go at it the way I wanted to. And then obviously his passing and so now it makes you know, I want to go ahead and finish that. But just you know what else about him too, Steve. I was just I'm telling Rob this, I had no more Garcia power. On my show recently, the news shows, Spectrum News, and we talked about the how black players couldn't play in the MLB. So then when they integrated it, the numbers were obviously growing and growing and growing and growing, and then around the late like midd and late nineties, they should start going the opposite way, down and down and down.

And I just remember growing up being a kid.

Ricky Henderson was one of those players you just you go outside to one emulate because you saw a black player playing and it's.

So interesting to do everything. Yeah, we could do anything.

And it's the game has changed now when it's like a free for all that anybody can play. We see Japanese players, Carean players, Latino players from different countries and it's just it's amazing how it's just changed in that way. So he was one of those that you had you kind of to look at. I want to say this real quietly, I mean real quickly. Howard Bryant wrote a book about Rickey Henderson. That's the book. They say, that's the book. That's the book I was talking about right there. Rest in peace, Fox Sports Radio
