Oh my god, I told you I'm trying to get ripped up so one day I could do my news, my morning news show. And it's gonna people are gonna be like, man, either he has on a chocolate shirt or that man ain't got on no shirt, and I will have no shirt but a suit on. I can't wait.
I've seen there are colored shirts like that where I have to You're like.
Wait, whita what? Yeah, I want to catch him off.
God like, t O over there, honey, just t o.
Oh glad you mentioned it, because's somebody'm about to mention here in a minute.
All right, let's do this.
So the college football season ended last night National Championship Ohio State beating Notre Dame.
It's like a blowout for the most part. Remember I told you that's what they're gonna do. It still was a blowout, but they can know for their own personal for the rest of their life, they gonna be like I was in that's championship. It was really close, yeah, because that was looking like it was about to be forty two to seven.
Yeah, that was pretty bad.
But we had an embarrassing moment, Oh boy, us in the game, and it involved Kirk Herbstreet, who's the color analyst for ESPN and ABC.
And let's take a listen.
I'm a little emotional, you know. I I'm just fired up for these guys.
I it's you know, when I call these games, I'm incredibly objective and I you know, I love all these Ohio State teams, but this team, because of what they went through to get to this point, you're just happy, you know.
Was minimum by the way, Yeah, and he stepped out of the camera site so that he could wipe his eyes because he's crying. I mean, he put none of them. That was the worst part because Fowler's just talking and he's just off to the side.
Here, here we go, the most embarrassing moment for a broadcaster.
And I'm dead serious.
This is my big argument about athletes in these roles because they claim that they're objective and they're not. They're not for him to even have to say. And you know, when I do these games, I'm objective. I had to say that, incredibly objective. But you're crying like a baby. And here's the problem. I've said this before. Tiki Barber backing the Giants with Sai Kwan and Daniel Jones.
He's a part. He's won that uniform.
Kirk Kurbstreet can say whatever he wants, he's won that uniform. To me, it would be like and then they say, well, what about Joe Davis.
He does the Dodger games.
Right, did Joe Davis boo? Who?
When the Dodgers won the.
World Series on Fox, some people were mad. They felt like he wasn't talking.
About exactly, Okay, because he's a professional.
How did Mike How did Charles Barkley lose one of his best friends ever?
He caught out Michael Jordan. He called him out and said, terrible owner GM.
Okay, most of the players in the NBA hate Charles Barkley, don't they because the guy is honest. Yet he's one of the best analysts out there, and a lot of these guys can't shake it. Can you imagine if we watched the election coverage and Anderson Cooper started boohooing because Trump won the election.
Well, I'm just saying.
Okay, you get what I'm saying. You can't do that if you want to be in this business. And Kirk curb Street, that's an embarrassing moment for his broadcast career. How can any coach, any player, anybody take anything he says? Right seriously, when he bleeds, scall it, call it red from Ohio State, And I get it.
I guess sure everybody can be happy. He can be hey, you know, like he took it. Here's by let me jump a terrible moment. Here's my issue. You remember what he did a few weeks ago well, he got mad so much so that he called out his own colleagues about them and they and what they saying, and called out Shannon Sharpen them chain and first take like his own colleagues about a game about a dude, it's a first it's a debate show. They're gonna debate things, their opinions, their opinion on the debate show that typically, especially those two, they're not far reaching. They're not other shows that say crazy, asinine stuff. And you called your own colleagues out on the air, Number one, Hold on. That shows me you're getting too emotional in this. You're calling people out on air, not just random while who's fans or something. You're calling out your colleagues. Dude, that's kind of cause to attach to. That's my point. So that's number one. And is this ain't a matter of years whereas this is all like a few weeks. You're calling out your colleagues, then you're getting emotional so much so out if you'd have just played the table. I thought it was Tyo, that's my quarterback. I thought he was. Everybody hit me with the that's my quarterback. Nobody's saying you can't be excited nobody can't. We all know where you went to school. We understand that, we know you have personal relationships, but you gotta hold on for three minutes. And as they say on the streets, he gonna cry in the car. You can cry in the car. You can do that. If this was your last game, you ever recall him. You had a great career and your school happened to win it. We all would get it. But to say, I've been incredibly objective. You just called out your own colleagues, called out fans who.
Justified you went to all the state and after that it was witch after Ryan Day lost to Missions.
That's what I say. You know, you're twenty one and you lose Michigan unranked lost in Guinness Joe, you're one and four against them. That's part of the job. Jim Harbo had a heck of a career. But you know when people kept questioning him and calling for a job, when he would lose Ohio State, when he took a.
Pay cut at Michigan before he finally won the national championship.
That's not far of us. So to go crazy on fans, go crazy on the idea that Ryan Day when you know the expectations, what they are? You know this and then it specifically call out teammates and colleagues. I should say, I just I thought that was too much coupled then with this quarterback moment. Kirk heck of a career, one of the better broadcasts view. But we can get punke the breaks a little bit. No, like I said, I'm not saying don't get emotional. I ain't saying that. You got to tell them and you and the producer director in your ear and man, go quick, we gotta need to get out of this quick because I'm about to have a moment. Dude, whatever you need to do, but you can't have that full on moment right after you just said I'm incredibly objective.
It's it was a bad scene. And if you're a TV executive that he.
I didn't say that. I'm saying that you lose credibility.
You can say whatever you want that they love him, you lose credibility. And if another coach decides, wait, man, you're an Ohio state.
You cried on the air and then you say something.
You say something now opposite Michigan, opposite Alabama.
That's what he does. Just what y'all got well, I thought it was supposed to be fair.
Do you see what I'm saying?
Like, that's what puts the network in a in a in a weird spot. Oh you want to do an interview with Kirk? Now you know what I'm straight? Okay, he's got an Ohio State slam and he cried on the air. I've been watching sports my whole life, and this is my big pushback on athletes ex athletes becoming broadcasters.
It's not that they can't.
They have a better insight on being color analysts, but as a fan watching and listening, they're compromised. He just showed you on the biggest broadcast of college football this year, how compromised these guys are. They're in bed with the teams, they have relationships, and they can't break.
Away from it. So when you hear from them, I'm not saying don't listen.
To them or they don't have any credibility, but understand they're compromised.
They're not always gonna.
Give you the real story, the fair story, the accurate story. There's too many entanglements and they can't break away from it.
Because that's your school. He wants to be liked He's not gonna rip.
He's gonna go on there and rip Ryan day after they lost to Michigan on the air.
No, it won't happen. And he the best part about it too. There are some who we love and respect who to do that. Troy Aikman, Troy Aman will go at the team, he'll go at the refs, who go at the legue just we just talked about it with Patrick m'hall. Loved it. And Troy Aikman will go at the cowboys. Hey, he just said, I don't think that's a desirable job. That's a I mean, dude, he is literally like mister cowboy quarterback during the nineties. Obviously Roger Starbuck you know, sitting there too, but you know what I mean, Like you're a cowboy than the ninety you got three rings. And he'll go at Jerry. He loves Jerry, but he'll keep it right. Hey, I don't like what he do it. Hey he medals. Hey that's not desirable. Hey, they need to be better in the offseason. So there are people who do it correct. How many teams? How many tell them? Do you watch the pregame show?
And whatever team they played on, they always picked the team, like like Siahs like, why would you Let's skip all.
Very often, let's skip this if this is what it's.
Going to be.
And if you can't, okay, is it okay?
You look at the matchup, your your your team, your team you play for is banged up and the other team is way better.
Right and so my only thing with that, what would be the point on my only thing? I'm more on the on the Kirk Curve Street side of like you're calling the game. If you guys are just talking smack and you're picking the game, you tongue in cheeks say I don't give a dag if they hurt. I'm going with the filling the blake. That's my I'm okay with that because i know you're being outrageous.
I'm not.
No, you see that doesn't bother me because I know you're being outraged. Shouldn't you shouldn't do they're selling me on quote incredibly objective. Yet you're going at people on the air your own color. That to me is what I having Kirk Curve Street picked every week Ohio State to win. What I'm saying, but I'm that what is the point on doing that segment? If everybody's going to pick then I answer my point. I think a part of that is, as you mentioned, the inside NBA, just the fun side of it, like you're just gonna go with your team, have fun tongue and cheek. That that doesn't bother me because I know what you're doing. But when you're supposed to be an incredibly objective role calling a game, calling it as you see it and you're not, that's an issue. Rob G.
You've watched sports for a long time. You ever see that? I know I haven't.
During a broadcast, I've never seen.
I've never seen that.
I've seen the studio guys do it.
A cry on the on the as a national broadcaster doing a national game.
It ain't like Ohio.
State and never won a national championship, rob Gen. This wasn't like, oh my god, like like the cub finally won and you.
What, really and their expectations are for them to win it every year, So it's not like this is a favorite to win it again. Exit right. It was just and again, I do feel like there was a little extra sauce being at it, like meaning I think he I think he handed it up like I'm about to do you know how you know you're about to do something. I think he knew I'm about to do this.
Well, it was it was bad. It was really bad. One of the worst things I've ever seen. I mean for real, all right, Coming up next, Ryan Day won the battle, but he may have lost the war. We'll get into that. We'll continue all of that on this trash Talking Tuesday. Rob Parker kelvin Washington, I need a minute. Oh stop right here or Fox Sports Radio stick and stay.

Ain't nothing wrong with an end and ain't nothing wrong with a free as well. We were just talking about kirkhurb Street and you know him crying, getting emotional. But the point of that was based off of the game where Ohio State gets the job done. They secure their fourth national title, third in the with you know, the last three coaches in a row, which Ryan Day, to his credit, many thought would be on the hot seat rob after losing to Michigan and being one and four against Michigan as you know, being you spending all those years there. That's a big deal between those two teams. Coaches keep jobs, coaches lose jobs because yeah, sure you want a nation championship, you want to win that, but it's a very difficult task. Only one team is going to do that. But what you can do is beat Michigan, or what you can do is beat Ohio State, and you can dry to do that every year. So that's one of those requirements with the job. But Ryan Day gets as he gets the victory, gets to win, and obviously I would imagine had taken himself and removed himself from the hot seat. You are, you have taken yourself away because.
You got a national championship and you know that goes a long way.
Okay, like all of it. Oh, that's nice, Michigan.
They did get to us, but we rebound from that went on to win a National champs part to me, it was so meaningful that Kirk kurb Street cro top bits. We already did that. I'm just saying, but but you get my point. How in the world could it not be the.
Only thing I know? You as he's still in the hot seat, the only thing I know I'm saying, the only thing would be if people are all right now, we still need to be Michigan. You can't be runn around here one and four. But here's the thing with him too. So this is great for him and it's also great for the Ohio state because they say, now this is what we do. He's now created a new standard, right, this is what we do. And you would say, well, what is it that you do three coaches in a row, have won a national title, Trestle Urban Meyer, Ryan Day. So when you come here, now the expectation, since he's completed this is for three coaches in a row, and that's impressive that now this is what we do. So he's almost put the added at presser on himself, like why can't we be Alabama? Why can't we be Clinton where we win two out of three or two and four years?
Yeah, but I don't think I understand what you're saying, like to elevate the program, but they're not gonna take it away. I mean, it wasn't like that they won in twenty fourteen. I was, Yeah, it was a while ago. It ain't right. It ain't like you Wire winning all. It like if he wins another one in a couple, I'm saying, that's the new thing.
Why can't we that I'm saying, if we're spending twenty million dollars on players, Shoot, it is a major League baseball What the a spending? Steve what maybe you've got Ohio State spending more on a college team? Tiger payroll was like, no, you got a college You got a college football team paying more than a baseball team, probably two or three that's close to at least point being if we're paying twenty million dollars, we got all the resources, we keep getting these stub received. I mean, they have become receiver university. My gosh, they have all the all the receivers.
Get it.
But why can't we be Clemsing how they had that nice row. Why can't we be Alabama? Why can't we be Georgia. That's what the athletic director will be in president will be saying.
Now, I understand, but I think he's off the hot seat for now because if had he not won this year, I think that would have been it.
We spent twenty two years off the hot seat. But I'm saying now it's elevated. I'm saying, all right, good job, go get another one.
Here.
Here's the other thing that that works for him. Yep, the second highest winning percentage ever. Like he's done a lot of wins for them, and that's what it takes. And you got to satisfy the alumni so that they feel good every so often.
I don't think that they expect to win every other year. I just don't.
I just don't look at Georgia does look at look at bo scham Beckler admission. You know, I know, okay, but I'm trying to say he never won a national championship. They got a statue in front of the football office for him.
This is different people.
I ain't say anyone, but I'm just saying, and so for college, yes, the threshold is different, and I just think so I do. I think him winning this one got him off the hot seat. Now if he takes care of Michigan next year and wins, I don't know if they play for you know, lunch. You know what I'm saying. That's what turned around. That's what turned around Jim harbor tenure at Michigan. He started being on and Nanny finally broke through in one of national championship. He left as a hero, you know what I mean. Sure, and people don't remember how bad it was at Michigan because it was bad under Jim Harbor.
Yeah, but that will be my thing when he off every oh without a doubt. But I think they'll be interesting to see if they can win some more. But again, now that's a listen Ohio State and tout. You come here for a handful of years, is your tenure here? We expect this what we've done. The last three coaches here since two thousand and two have won titles. This is what we do. So the next coach in five, ten years, wherever you are, we expect the title because that is now what we do. And that's kind of an amazing president to have it set up like that, where your three coaches in a row winning a title. That's crazy because I don't know if Alabama gonna win one without Nick Saban, you know, or before him. Like for Ohio State to tout that, that's pretty pretty impressive for sure. Fris Moot, former NFL cornerback, NFL analysts, and just a moment getting it except excited about these these natural I'm sorry, the conference championship game's going on this weekend.
Right now, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk line up in the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live.
Robin as the couple, and we are joined right now by Fred Smooth, former NFL cornerback NFL analysts. I may or may not used to get busy with them when they were the Redskins, not the Commanders. Right now, Fred what's up? Man? On the NFL, Madden was getting busy. How are you? What's up? Fred?
I'm good y'all doing, man?
Thanks for having me feeling good man. Well, other than the fact that the Commanders played a flawless game against the line.
No no, no, no, no, Fred, he's a big time line holer. I've been telling them all year lies what we gonna do. I picked the Commanders, he had his panties in a bunch over it, and they went in. How surprised were you at what the Commanders were able to do? Because I saw this coming. Oh don't get that, man.
None of that progmentation with.
With Jared lost. But go ahead. What you see in that game, think.
About it is we just introduced to wear up to America's new team, and to think about inside of that building that we had a chance to beat there. We gotta realize it's good. The Detroit Ryons are offensively. You know, they was missing thirteen guys on dfense, and sometimes that catches up with you when you play in a high power like the one we have. And you got to also realize we have a rookie quarterback. It's leading the playoffs in passing percentage, passing efficiency, passing yard and he don't turn the ball over, giving us the chance to win any game.
So you're trying to tell me he's the one? Is he the one?
Is he?
Neil on the main treatman. Didn't we hear his last year about the rod. I remember this conversation a year ago.
No, two different animals, two different animals. He won, the Lord chares this one't is different. Right here. You gotta realize I said this before the year started. I say, as a group, this would be the best quarterback class of all time. And it's because the side effect of them going through COVID, them being able to start forty fifty sixty college games if they steed gave us a little slower to them than it is when the rookie comes out and get one and a half or two year start. He got that a lot of football, and this guy puts a lot of work into I give him that like he puts the work in, so when he gets on the field, he's never nervous.
I about this, and I'm not trying to rain on your parade because I love what the commanders have.
Get an umbrella, ready for ready for it?
It I mean, come on, there's like three or four games that they had no business winning where they got lucky at the end. And you know what I'm talking about, And you wouldn't be having a different conversation because I love I get it. You know, Uh, sports has a short manu wins and losses. But let's just like, let's not get carried away. They had some things break their way as well.
Rob ro Rob was a field we all be drunk for free eye.
That's what I'll be telling them.
No, don't you do that. Rob. Like football, he is a little lucky involved when the battle is bouncing your way. You know that when you're a team of destiny. See, people thought we were playing with house money, but now we see to be a team. And you gotta realize we're playing the Philadelfia Eagles. We didn't beat those guys before. We're not scared to Philly death. We're four quarters away from walking down Bourbus Street and drink it five five in dakers Well.
And you know what the Lions were too, with a seventeen point lead in the first half in San Francisco.
I understand, Okay, we just beat the Lions. We just beat the Lions.
All right, Fred, Right, you ain't gotta say you beat the Lions three times in a rough friend, I got it, Fred Smoot, our guest, former NFL cornerback, NFL analyst. Let's talk about this game. The Eagles will say, hey, we got a great defense, we got a quarterback that he doesn't have to do too much, you know, just manage the game. He probably didn't want to hear that. But and then we got that boy running that's looking like Barry Sanders two point zero and saved. How do you go about it if you were still a dB for the Commanders? What's the process? How do you stop that offense? Specifically the running game with.
Saquan First of all, when it comes to shake one and try to stop him is basically you need to start with putting some Jesus in your life. Nick, You've got to realize that their offensive line is maam it. Their offense line is one of the best office lives in football. So it's good as take Kwan Barkley is I got to talk about the fact that they got some guys up front that's part of a moving company and their movie. You state to state that they have to then you got to realize Dallas guarded over there, and you got aj Brown and Smill. But the one factor that I think nobody's talking about is Jalen Hurts is actually maybe hurting. They're not saying nothing about it. He's not been playing, especially when it comes to throwing the ball from the pocket. He has not been efficient. And I'm telling you right now we have a chance to get out in a shootout on them. And I don't know how much take Kwan Barkley up be if our offense start to really click, you gotta realize we may going through a list. Fred when we tell our plan of trust way to stay at home, we don't even use him. But I tell you what the familiarity of these two teams office defense and expecial teams wise, it's gonna be a good game.
Yeah.
I just look at the Eagles with that office line and that they can run the ball, they can control the clock, cut down on possessions.
You know what I mean.
That's the kind of game you want to play, don't you If you're if you're taking on Washington.
Rob May, the playoff football is it hold? You know when he gets cold outside and you can't throw the ball around your yes, and guess what. We have a guy that's the great equalizer. We have Jedi five. We had a force multiplier himself. We got a guy that using his legs and as good as anybody in the league. And we don't design a lot of run plays for him. This is naturally from the pockets. He didn't gonna think about Jayalen that you got love. He really throws this subvert and surveys at pocket like Peyton Manning when he runs like Lamar Jackson. That's a scary mixture person right there. So it's a different level when it comes to these teams.
Let me ask you this, then, if you look at let's just say, for whatever, the Commanders go to the Super Bowl and you got to face either the Bills or the Chiefs. Let's kind of break down those two teams. Uh, the Chiefs, obviously, they just make the right winning play year after year. At the year this is what they do. And their officials he look Super Bowls robbed at some point. Can you just say they're good the great? No, I'm not. This year they've been really lucky for you here. This is what we're talking about.
Come on with the look how about these guys and to Read and Pat Mahomes just know how to win. How About they might not be as explosive as they were with Tyreek Hillis, might not might not get more efficient, and they know how to win. Like when it comes to the fourth quarter, the two things out these quarterbacks haven't coming Jaydon Dais and Pat Mahos. If they got the ball last, you have lost. That's a guarantee. You could take that to the casino. You won't win that money. So at the end of the day, he's as leitha as he's always been. How About they might be a little bored. How beout they more into that mod of the old New England team that we couldn't stand.
That's so bored.
Yeah, Patrick Mahomes had the worst stats of his career across the board.
Every stat line was the worst of his career.
You think that Patrick winning, You think, yeah, no, but yeah, but it ain't.
It ain't just him.
He didn't even get the team went fifteen and two when he got no MVP votes.
How is that possible? No all pro votes? If it's about Patrick Mahomes.
So I'm asking you to win, I'm asking you no I'm just saying, no, only do I have to win games, but you want me to win him with style points?
Right now? It ain't stop points. It's just the idea.
How many quarterbacks can lead a team to fifteen and two, right and and not getting all Pro vote at quarterback? How is that possible?
I understand that, But his stats were just not They're the only statu he was leading in was winning games. And that's what I'm saying. Where Pat mahonmes sets the bar so high, all right, well he comes up short. They would not reward him, you know, That's.
What I'm trying to tell. I mean, you got Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen were incredible, Joe Burrow throwing a million touchdowns. You knew they were gonna take some of them, some of them votes right there?
All right?
All right, so then give us your fight. What's the prediction. I mean, obviously I'm just assuming it's go ahead, pick Washington for you.
Well, no, I'm not being a homer when I say this. Everything's coming out of my mouth.
It is the truth.
Now your version is totally different. Now, this is what I say. It's gonna be a hard, fire ball game. It's gonna be an old NFC East rival, knock them, bring your right Dale helmet. But I think we prevailed in the end. I just think we got it. That the team of Destiny. We'll prevail, but it won't be as high schooling as people think it is. I'm gonna stay Washington thirty. I'm gonna say that Eagles twenty five, and it's gonna be walking to New Orleans. I cannot wait.
So you'll be there, huh.
I'm not missing this way, haven't been. We hadn't done this in three decades, all right, you know they woke up, but sit sleeping giant here in Washington. We got fans all over the world. It has been new world order. It has been different.
But it is amazing because the last time I went to a game in Landover, they had seats covered up all over the upper deck. You remember that.
Frad Yeah, yeah, I'm in the dark era. I went through it. I was a part of some of them. I understand the pain that this Like, if you told us before the season we was four quarters away from the super Bowl, nobody would have believed in us, nobody would have gave us a chance. But when you get a quarterback, a guy like we have a totally game changer. It showed you what you can do. You can turn a whole franchise around. And I ain't gonna start it. Don't start there. It's started with this new ownership. It's started with coach Quinn. It's starting with Adam. I mean, I get used to this. We ain't going nowhere for long.
It's funny because that's what they said with CJ. Stroud last year, that they were going to make the Super Bowl.
