NRL SuperCoach podcast: Round 20 teams live reaction

Published Jul 16, 2024, 7:30 AM

Two greats of SuperCoach are ripe for the picking this week in Tom Trbojevic and Nathan Cleary. Is now the time to move?

This is the official Super Coach NURL podcast Teams List Tuesday.

Hello super coaches, and welcome to our live React Teams podcast. It's round twenty. Will our origin players back up? There's injuries to deal with. We've got Turbo calling our name, We've got Cleary calling our name. We've got a massive show coming up, and we have a massive special guest as well, one of YouTube's finest. It's Ama Talks. How are you mate?

I'm good. You've had to call on the bench to get me here for my first grade debut, but to be here, no appreciate the call up.

No, I've been watching your stuff for a while and it's always really impressive. Where are You're ranked this year?

Just outside the top three thousand, so like three and forty, So yeah, making a slow climb. They had a pretty bad start, so yeah, they're hoping to crack top thousand. I reckon by the end of the season. That's the goal.

Well, yeah, that's my goal too, but I've only got five trades left after this week, so I did mention a huge show today. We'll just through some of the big talking points. Of course, the teams were dropping about four minutes also, so we'll be all over that. The biggest question this week though, Tommy Turbo, do you go there?

I look good, he look good like I thought, the way that he played, and manly in general, it felt like twenty twenty one all over again. The wingers, the fullback, Garrick all going big. I think it's hard to resist Tommy when he's at seven hundred and thirty k. The drawer is a little bit mixed, but look, I'm still a bit fifty to fifty, but I think you can't knock anyone training in Tommy Turbo.

Look, I need to sell Fletcher Sharp, so I'm in a position where I need to buy a fullback this week, and it's probably going to be Tommy Turbo. Let's face it, he's at a good price. He's at his best price of the year, plus is a great of Supercoach. There's injury history galore, but I think it's worth a punt. He's got a really good run home except for one buy in round twenty two, which is not in the Supercoach Final series, so I'm happy to throw that week. I'll be able to back him up with someone else, but Turbo is in.

I'm on, Yeah, No, that's a good point you make, actually, especially if you're a head to head player, not having a buy during that head to head period in the finals is actually really useful. And yeah, seven hundred and thirty k is cheaper than when you know so many of us are owned him at the start of the year, so you just have to think if and I think mainly are looking like in a pretty good position as well, so I think they will want to make sure they're stay in the top eight, So it's hard to see them resting too many players unless maybe around twenty seven if they're going well. But as I said, yeah, Tom Turbot seven hundred and thirty k pretty okay break even as well eighty two at home against the Titans. It looks it all looks like they're ready for Tom to come into your team by the sound of it.

Yeah, yeah, good, good match up this weekend as well, so he'll have the big fat scene next to his name this week. Yes, oh thanks, Paradise. The other big question, Nathan Cleary, you've got the break even of one hundred and eighty nine, so you can wait a week. I would have gone there if I had enough cash, but I was about thirty K short. I think it's worthwhile going ahead of the pack on this one because he is playing a blue bet stadium. Equally though, he's probably going to come back little bit slower. He's going to ease back into the game. So happy to wait a week and hope that he drops. He's predicted to drop by super Coach Plus by over one hundred k. I don't know if that's going to happen. I just need him to drop thirty k and then I can get him next week. Yeah.

No, I mean he's a massive talking point if we expect him to be named and yeah, look we've been waiting all season for Cleary to really fire. It's only been a few games that he's played, and so I think, yeah, with a really high break. Even personally, I'm edging towards just waiting a week just to see, just to want to see him come through on scaled. I know he's had a long period off, but we just want to make sure that you know the match is completely different to anything he does on the training field.

Yeah, we'll leave us one hundred k cheaper and you're running short on trades, then certainly wait a week. Happy Corusale so big news came through on him today from Michael carrianas only one to two weeks with a calf injury, he was a really popular cell. He probably still will be a popular cell in one to two weeks, particularly if he if he is your starting hooker. If you own him and Harry and Harry Grant doesn't get a name to back up with that Sternham injury, then you're in massive strife. If he's your number one hooker, I think he does need to be sold.

Yeah, I think it really does come down to your backup. I think if you've got, like say a lot of people may still have like a Joey lassic, you know, then if you don't want to cop like an auto emergency, then yeah, probably do need to move him on. There's a few hooker options who don't have any bias for the rest of the year, like a Reidmine. He comes to mind. Connor Watson looks really good from the Roosters as well. I do think just because hooker has pretty low upside position if you know trades are running low, I do think it's worthwhile also just holding on to him. The Tigers, despite their poor form, don't have that bad of a run home in terms of matchups, So I think if you can afford to hold him, then I think he's That's how I lean with the updated news on his injury. But for sure I think if you need to get a number one hooker then I think, yeah, probably it just needs to be moved on. So don't cop an a right.

It is four pm in the teams about to drop. I'll last you quickly while they're loading up Blazed langing. Big decision for me this week. I've got a pretty good would say in a wing, and I don't need to sell him. I mean you could sell him to Tommy Turbo or to clear it if you've got the right jewels. But for me, I think he is a good eighteenth nineties, twentieth man averaging mids of early sixties this year. I'm happy to hold him. But if you did need to free up cash to bring in one of these big guns, then I'd be happy for it. While he's on the buy.

This week, yeah, he's definitely a one, even if you didn't have to move him on this week he's on the buyers who weren't actually a changing price. But I believe he's got a break even of seventy one, which is not totally you know, it's not like it's a super ridiculously high break even. He's actually looked good when playing on the wing for the Eels. The only issue I'd have is maybe if he stayed at center like he played last time out, I think that's not going to be as good for a super coach scoring as it would be playing on the wing. The Eels do have a pretty tough run home as well, so I'd probably again lean towards He's not like an urgent cell, but he's at a good price now. I think he's around five to seventy five eighty k. You know, you can free up cash, you can go down to someone like Isac Tungo who's got like a really good run home. He's free up a bulb, you know, two hundred k, almost doing a kind of that Mulla Tyler who has got a good run home when he's off the by next week. I would personally lean towards if you don't think he's going to be in your seventeen in your centers anyway, I'd probably lean towards moving him on, just with the tough run for the Eels.

Yeah, but with five trades left.

In your situation tomy, you might have to say you's going to.

Be eighteenth man, that's for sure. The teams have dropped Raiders, so Jamal Foggetty is back, which is huge news for them heading forward. They've got Hudson Young back into the team as well. There was chat that Hoskin would be back and he is there, so he's on the bench in Jersey seventeen. Super coach wise, the guy who really jumps out for me though is Joe Tapperay, who's going on his usual mid to end of season tear, averaging seventy six over the last five, when you've got Adam fanol Blake averaging only sixty one over that period, So he's far better option on a recent form, even though for Noile Blake is ridiculously popular.

One thing with phanil Blake as well that they do have the buy in Round twenty seven the Warriors, and that is going to be a very tricky week. We might see a lot of coaches resting some of their gun players who will inevitably be in our super coach teams. So I think someone like the Raiders and Joe Tarpani if you want to just lock him in feel front row for the rest of the year. Don't mind that he's pretty solid, doesn't generally go below fifty. I can't remember his price off the top of my head, but yeah, he's generally does perform quite well through the by period, so I think we might just see him. You know, if the Raiders want to make sure trying to make a run for it, they'll need someone like Tarpani to step up and hopefully gets the offload going, because that's when he really kills it For super.

Coach At the Warriors, Charles Nika Klock's dad is out. Macelo Montoya is out as well with groin injury, so that's as we predicted in Early Male. That means Tanta Peaky comes in at fullback. Tobyo Harris is out for the season. That's big news that broke this morning. Of course, Mitch Barnett is onably the super Coach guy to watch in this team, averaging ninety seven over the last five rounds ridiculous. He will be backing up from his Origin debut and it's only forty eight hours later, so it's gonna be a tough ass for him this weekend.

Yeah, he's been on an absolute turn. I think while you've seen for nor Blake have his bit of a recent slump, Barnett has done the complete opposite. I think he's over seven hundred k now has just been absolutely killing it. Yeah, named to back up, I suspect you won't to play big minutes for New South Wales on Wednesday night, but let's see what happens there, because yeah, only a two day turnaround. If he plays limited minutes and you're looking and you're happy to spend up in your front row. He's got a handy dual second front Reford as well, so I think he looks just like just passing the eye test as well. You just probably need to be wary again of that round twenty seven by for the Warriors.

Very expensive right now and I just don't quite have the cash to bring him in, even though whenever I'll watch the Warriors, I can barely watch the Warriors.

Put it that way, he's just one of those guys that just rolls up his sleeves, just keeps taking runs. Tackle that he's made for super Coach to be honest, what he's playing at the.

Bunnies, they got Cameron Murray back, so he's been named back up from origin. Other than that, like there's not much doing at the rabbit Os. Maybe Cody Walker is a guy worth mentioning. Is there anyone at the rabbit Os I think it's worth talking about.

It probably is Cody, I guess, you know. And obviously it depends on also what's happening with Latrell in terms of when he's due back. I think we don't really have any clear cut news still on that one. But I guess the other one maybe to potentially call that is Jacob gag Guy. So he's had a couple of good weeks, he's got a negative break even sub five hundred k. Again, maybe if you had maybe a few more trades, Tom, but maybe if you're selling to lungy, you know, if you're looking for some quick cash. Jacob ga Guy the worth the Tigers twice and I think the next five weeks, and so there's a couple of nice match ups there for the rabbit Os. So someone who you might want to keep just purely for matchups. Alex Johnson did score one hundred and twenty one last time out as well, so maybe there's a couple of wingers looking potentially interesting there for the rabbit Os.

Decent call there at the Tigers. So as we mentioned, Appy chorus Out is out with that calf injury. That means talent the silver place hooker. Look again, look at all these changes, but none of them are really super Coach relevant. The big thing is appicicrus Out, who's spoken about plus Lacklin, Galvin is the sixth most sole player. Does that make sense to you?

I can understand. I can understand it. You know, last week had didn't have a great score break even of ninety eight. He's losing a bit of cash and I think people might be able to look into cash in and he might be in the stepping stone to Nathan Cleary, for example, that kind of a move if you're willing to take that punt on Cleary this week. I completely understand it, because the two a night and day in terms of their super Coach potential. I'm a little bit torn on Galvin because I think while you know, last week was underwhelming, he has generally been pretty solid this year off for super Coach and the Tigers. Yes, they've been bad, but he's sometimes been able to deliver good scores despite how bad the Tigers have been, maybe in certain games. So I'm kind of looking at him as someone I can just maybe just plug in. They don't have a buy until around twenty six, so at the moment, I'm thinking maybe of just holding. But I understand if he's a way to move on to get to Cleary.

I saw him a while back and I'm kind of regretting it now, but certainly a guy you could how he is eighteenth nineteenth, great depth, a bit like Blaste Lungi or Kyle Iro, who's actually a popular cell this week, which I don't necessarily agree.

That's surprising.

Yeah, the Knights have got Kaylin Ponger, Bradman Best and Gag Guy all back into the team after Origin, which is huge news there. So Fletcher Sharp, where is he is? Not? He is on the extended bench.

Okay, he's not even in the seventeen.

He's not in the seventeen. But obviously we'll wait and see what happens post Origin. Is Ponger an option few do you have? Not kicking goals is probably the.

Yeah I don't like, And the Knights do have a little bit of a tough next three. So they've got the Broncos, the buyer and then Penrith, So timing wise, it doesn't feel like the greatest of times to be buying someone like a Ponger. But yeah, after that Peneth game, I think round twenty three Onndreds, the Knights do have a really good run home. I think they've got three of their games at home and I think they've got a fair fe amount of day games. If you just see Ponger goal kicking by that time in day games, we know what he can do based on what he did last year. Definitely definitely interested in Ponger, It's just doesn't quite feel like the right time to get him yet.

Well, if Turbo gets injured, I'll be going big point there is as well as Greg mars You picked up a cork on the weekend. He will barely run, only got a score in the teams, but it is just a cork. He's been named for now. We'll keep an eye on it, obviously, but it can generally recover pretty quickly from those, so we're pretty hopeful on Greg MARSU this week onto the Bronx. We've got the same seventeen, which means that they got part Paynehass, Reese Walsh, Pat Carrigan and Sell and Cobbo the Origin guys all in the reserves so they could potentially come back in and Adam Reynolds is on the extended bench too. That would have been seriously big names into that team this week.

Yeah, because I think another fullback just to throw it into the next that people are potentially eyeing up is also Reese Walsh. He's been goalkicking to date, pretty good score in the last few rounds. I think three on an average in the nineties, good score Agans Penrith. I think a lot of people maybe knock against Broncos just how they've been looking as a team. But if they get all their Origin stars back, Adam Reynolds back in the fold, Walsh would lose a goal kicking, but he's definitely playing them in a much stronger looking team. They don't have a bad run home either. But yeah, that Reynolds news is pretty big from super Coach point of view, just on the you know, the goalkicking implications with Walsh and just how the Broncos may fare overall.

The other big news now or onto the storm is that Harry Grant has been named to back up from carrying that stern of injury. We'll have to see what happens if he gets banged up in Origin. Even if he doesn't get banged up in Origin, he's definitely a resting candidate. But for now he's there in the number nine jersey, so good news.

Yes, I'm Harry Grant owner, so you know, glad to see his name there. Obviously you have to see what happens with the Origin. I was fully expecting him to not be named, just because I thought the Storm might play it safe with him. So yeah, hopefully we just get any Grant owners to have him for this round. And I think that probably means, you know, people who are looking at moving off flakes of the Corus, they might have their perfect option now and something like a Harry Grant. I saw also that Monster's not back in the team. That still Tyrone Wishart as well, so another one probably for wish Art owners I think, who are looking at a bit of depth for this week as well.

The other thing know is that far Longo is on the bench, which is always a bit worried for Sid coach, even though they find ways to get him into the game. I mean certainly you'd prefer him in the starting site. Roosters, what do we have here? I know that is back from suspension. They've got Bradley back to teroror May is starting at prop with Warria Hargraves suspended for a while, so that is big news super coach wise, They've got Crichton, Collins, Spencer, Lana Watson all named back up from Origin, so it looks like a very strong team there for the Roosters.

Yeah, it looks better. They've got Joseph Suoley E back there as well, as I think it's quite an owner as well. Happy to see him named as well, But obviously just has to see what happens with the Origin game. Whatever minutes he plays and you know, and you know, if he's banged up, maybe the Roosters do look to rest him. But it probably does help that it is a pretty big game against the Melbourne Storm, so I'd be hopeful that the Rusters do like to play their Origin players on return there. But yeah, I guess big question for myself anyways. Also on tedsco he's just been like a set forget captain last few weeks against Melbourne away. Maybe I'm thinking is this is potentially a week to go against him.

I don't know. It's tough on you this week when I have Tom Taboyvich in my team, he's captain every week. I just guess work out of it and lucky me, particularly when he's at four pints Park Tommy at four pints. Yes, he does his hanming in the first two minutes.

About that's I'm sure we've all been there at some point, had that experience.

Onto the Panthers. So Cleary is definitely back, which is great is the Origin guys are all in the reserves, so you'd expect that they'll be assessed afterwards. Actually, Isaiah and Dylan Edwards confirmed rested.

Okay, yeah, big news, so pretty big news.

I mean, Yo's pretty popular this year and certainly Dylan Edwards is a definite option for the run home. But hold off. I think he's got a big b too.

He's got like a break even I think in one hundred and sixties is like eight hundred and ninety k, so I think a lot of people probably would have preferred him to back up and lose a bit of cash. Even if you're looking at him next week, he's still going to be at that really high price with a really high break even. So yeah, for me, Dylan Edwards probably just those couple of factors means it probably won't be looking at him in the next couple of weeks, and then by then I'm probably thinking KP is the one I think I want by round twenty three if he's back to goalkicking as well. But yeah, big news with Cleary back, I guess as we suspected.

Yeah, so no goalkicking for Will Ponger and Dylan Edwards presumably as well with Cleary back into that scene, so I need to move at fullback this week. So Dylan Edwards, I'm just going to put a line through him and death ride him for the rest of UNDERSTANDAB has always dangerous given how well he's going this season.

Yeah, do you think Cleary kicks goals as well a straight away from return or maybe ala Motti continues the big person.

I've got Alamani in a draft league, so hopefully. But I think Edwards took the kicks at goals in their last class. Yeah he did. I think Ala Modi is third in line.

Yeah, okay, Yeah, I'm sure Cleary will resume kicking goals given that it's been such a long time, long time away that you would think he's one hundred right to.

Go at the Dolphins. They got the Hammer and Felice Cafusi, both named after origin. Tray Full is still in the seventeen, so presumably he is the yeah super coach wise, well you and Aken is obviously a really popular cell after doing his peck looks quite serious. I doubt he'll play again this season, but I haven't actually seen a proper timeline on him to beata Panguy Junior was great to see him getting that left hand out and.

Doing do it again. I don't know if I can do it to myself again.

To Po's heavy popul he's the third or fourth most popular purchase this week. Yeah, and a pretty decent price. Look, he's not It was a depleted team that was coming up against last week. Do you think he can keep backing that up?

Well, I mean the bench looks good. There's the three. Normally the Dolphins have a four forward bench, but having tray Full of their means, you know, there's a little bit less some players to play in the middle, so that might mean TPJ gets some more bigger minutes. First couple of games. I think we're in the thirties. But last week it was around a fifty minute game and he pumped out like over fifty to fifty five and like base power, I think, so it's just like, do we do it? Do we need to use another trade on just getting in an old flame of ours for supercoach? I don't know, it's it's tough. I think we'll get to the Bulldogs seamless as well. But I'm thinking, you know, maybe a lot of people may have sold some like Sam Hughes to him. Maybe now Sam Hughes could be a hold if Max King being out, if that's confirmed by the team lists, maybe more minutes for him potentially.

I can't do it to myself.

I think I'm with you there, to be honest.

That's TPJ, that's for sure. Although it is interesting to point out the police confusie. He has been named on the edge. He probably goes into the prop at some stage during that game, but it could free up some minutes for TPJ onto the Sea Eagles. Obviously, it's all about Tom ch Boyvitch there and his brother Jake has been named back up has as has Daily Cherry Evans what else we've got there. We've got bench Boyvitchion which is a great extra number. And what's it's actually a surprisingly tough round this week.

Yeah, this week is a little bit tougher. Lei hop White is also still there on the wing. He had a great flipped back to Tommy Till that was awesome. Yeah, so I think he probably did enough to keep his spot. Jason Sababs had a couple of really big weeks as well, so I know people maybe looking at him as a bit of a pod in the center wing maybe, you know again thinking of people maybe moving on someone like Tilney mainly are looking a bit better, So yeah, I think a few. It's good to see all of the relevant players for super Coach for many being named there.

I can officially reveal that Des Haslas completely los, which has happened many times before, but he's named Keanu Kinney at fullback this week with Aj Brimson as eighteenth man. Like I played, that's going to change on game day. What's what is he doing there?

This is probably a special trick for him coming up against his old Cup club and manly, I think everyone can see through it. What's the point?

Jayden Campbell is still very popular this week. The issue I've got is that at his price, you can get Nathan Cleary for slightly more. That's only about sixty k more. Or you could go and we'll get to him soon, but you could go Matt Burton two hundred K cheaper. Yeah, tod be going. I'm happy that I own Campbell. I wouldn't be getting on this week.

Yeah, I got Campbell last week. It is a tough one for people who are maybe still thinking of getting him. You know, he's had two hundred, especially a big one hundred and seventy a couple of scores ago. The only rational I can see still wanting to get him is purely just because he still does have a pretty large negative break even. He will make some money. So someone again thinking of maybe not wanted to jumple Cleary straight away, if they've got the trades to do so, they might say, I'll take a punt on Campbell a rider for a couple of weeks. He might make me another one hundred fifty K. Clearly in the same time might go down one hundred K. And then if I go Campbell to Cleary by duels, I've pocketed two hundred and fifty k that I can understand that logic and doing so, I think the Titans also definitely improving, so I think I don't hate him as a trade in still this week, despite him being quite expensive now at seven to forty K. But yeah, as you said, I do like Matt Burton who's two hundred k cheaper. And the Bulldogs do have a really nice run home as well.

So three questions guys on Facebook or YouTube will get to them in a sec. I'm just loading them up now, but for now we'll go through the Cowboys, who have named all their origin guys to back up, so it's a I mean, the team is full of reserve grade. It's basically for now, but you would assume that some of those guys, at least some of them will back up onto the Doggies. So they got Jacob Preston back from a foot injury, which is big news for them, and Josh Current will be starting at PROP with Max King out injured, so that's good news for the current owners for sure.

Yeah, and they've got Sam Hughes starting as well, So I mean, I mean, I don't read too much into the minutes of some of these Bulldogs forwards just current whether he plays off the bench or starting, seems to play around the same minutes. But I can definitely see him stepping up just with Max King being out now with that wrisk fracture, I think Sam Hughes owner, that's probably a winner as well. Just hopefully playing a few more minutes should just mean that he can just not be as bad of an eighty ninemare as he was for a few weeks that he was for a few weeks ago. But yeah, good on the cowboy side of things as well, Like I'm a alcoholim's owner. So yeah, depth is getting tested this week, So hopefully Todd Payton does give those Origin players a bit of a backup and so we get some more players available to us.

Heaps of questions comments coming through. People are pumped avy all the show.

That's great to hear the questions right now, the questions now all.

I can see his exclamation marks. Basically Aman has made it a million exclamation mark.

Thank everyone.

Underneath that immediately says bloody des exactly what we're talking about before with that, Why is Edwards out? He's just been rested. That's that's what we're being told at this point is that Dylan Nevers just rested post all Origin next week, trading Walker for clearing. Thoughts on that that's from David, I'm going to do the same thing.

I'm assuming this is Sam Walker Cody Walker. Okay, Yeah, I don't mind Cody Walker out to clear. I think that's just a definite upgrade. I think getting clear, especially if he looks like he's unscathed coming through okay in this week's game. So yeah, for sure, that's a definite upgrade. I think can't knock that one.

Marcus is asking Stefano, that's fin to command? Who keep or sell a high break even in attitude is a bit of a worry. I'd be leaning towards selling if you've got the right trades.

I think, so yeah, if I don't know what his price is off the top of my head, but some of like a faneral Blake in the five hundred k's now as well, I think you should hopefully you have enough cash to be able to make a move like that, And so yeah, I think just with you know, with Stefano, yea, there's some chat about him intentially wanting to lead clubs as well. At the end of the season, So I think just with a high break even yet probably say you can move on to some like a Fanel Blake and probably have a bit more comfort about your front row there.

Matt Cameron has written in and I'm so jealous of this man right now because he says, I have fourteen trades and two boosts. How absolutely thinking of saving for next week to bring in Clear and Turbo. You may as well do Turbo this week. Yeah, I agree, next week you can wait for Clearing.

I agree with that. Yeah, Turbo's Yeah, I agree with that.

Fourteen trades, you may as well go earlier, just get ahead of the pack.

Yeah, definitely. Turbo's got the roosters next week as well. I think if you want him get him in for this Titans matchup at home.

Yep. Absolutely, And that's about it. I think we might go one more thoughts on getting Barnett. Is he a must have? With to Harris out, it's just too expensive for me. If you wanted to get on a Barnet it needed to be let's say, three weeks ago.

Yeah, I wouldn't call him a must have just because while he's been excellent, front row is a limited upside position. Although I say that knowing that he's scored one hundred and thirty the last time you played out. But I think at a cheaper price, you've got some like painhasf so you could lock in for the run home. We know that Brisbane will need to win games in the run home, so I think I can see someone like a Payinhass really stepping up playing some big minutes, and I think i'd probably look, you can't. You can't get the points that Barnett has already scored, so try to predict the next guy. I feel like Painhass could actually outscore him, just with I think Brisbane having to rely on him for the run home.

Well that is it for our teams Live React podcast for Round twenty. Mostly good news on the team's front. To be honest, you guys like Harry Grant names big thanks to Aman check out his YouTube channel and we'll catch you for the game day preview podcast on Thursday at eleven thirty am.
