Organizers preview the JB White Memorial Basketball Tournament and share thoughts on White's legacy

View descriptionShare

August 1 will mark five years since the death of JB White, but the legacy of former Santa Fe High basketball standout lives on. The JB White Foundation was founded in 2021 to raise gun violence awareness among the region’s youth, to provide academic scholarships to high school seniors and to support children in sports through assisting with registration fees and shoe apparel.

The foundation is also in its third year of hosting the JB White Memorial Basketball Tournament, which will take place July 18-20. Tournament organizers Britney Lucero and Michael Roybal join “The Sports Den” to preview the event, which will include 94 teams this year — more than double the number of teams that took part last year.

Roybal and Lucero share their experiences with White and discuss his legacy. They also talk about the growth of the JB White Foundation and its mission in the community.
