The UN Security Council has renewed sanctions on Sudan’s Darfur region, extending an arms embargo, asset freezes, and travel bans for 12 months. All 15 members of the council voted in favour of the resolution, which extended measures first adopted in March 2005. But how effective are these sanctions in relation to what is happening in Sudan?
