South Africa is heading towards the formation of a state-owned enterprise for water which is expected to be established in the first half of 2025 – with some skeptical about its promised effectiveness. In March 2024, Parliament passed the consequential National Water Resources Infrastructure State-owned company Bill. Broadly, the bill aims to create the South African National Water Resources Infrastructure Agency as a significant public entity and state-owned company.

Dr John Kani, a renowned multi-disciplinary actor, director, and playwright, has been honoured with the most excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by King Charles in recognition of his contributions, which for many years have inspired and brought people together across the world. This award for “services to drama” was presented to Kani by British High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, Antony Phillipson, in appreciation of his work.
