EFF reacts to National Assembly speaker’s refusal to subpoena Mogotsi and O’Sullivan

Today - we are joined by the inaugural chairperson and founding member of the Pan African Bar Association of South Africa (PABASA), the first African Bar of advocates. He has been the lead counsel in many prominent cases in South Africa. He was senior counsel for former president Jacob Zuma in his appearance in the Zondo Commission and other criminal matters. He was also counsel in the freedom songs case between Julius Malema, the ANC and the AfriForum. Most importantly, he is the author of the recently published book titled Odyssey of Liberation: A Memoir of a Rebel Advocate.

The attack raises serious concerns over intimidation of witnesses and those linked to high-profile cases. It is reported that Pretorius was about to drive into his residence when attacked by unknown suspects driving a white Toyota Vitz. They fired shots at him before driving away. He escaped unharmed, and the motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage. Gauteng police have confirmed that investigations are underway.

As we commemorate the coming into effect of our democratic Constitution. SECTION27 and WeThePeopleSA have just launched the “Know Your Constitution Handbook” to the South African Constitution. The South African Constitution was adopted by the Constitutional Assembly on 8 May 1996 and certified by the Constitutional Court in October 1996. On 10 December 1996, former President Nelson Mandela signed the Constitution into law and it came into effect on 4 February 1997.
