A war of words has ensued between the African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance, following the ousting of former City of Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink. The DA has warned the ANC to bring back Brink, or the party won’t entertain any talks of ensuring stability in other hung metros ahead of the 2026 municipal elections. However, the ANC in Gauteng has accused the DA of wanting to sow divisions between the provincial executive committee (PEC) and national executive committee (NEC), also making it clear that the party’s decision not to incorporate the DA into the Gauteng government of provincial unity was also taken by the national leadership of the ANC.
