Our Dynasty: The South African Muslim community - The South African Townships Madrasah Competition
The South African Muslim community - The South African Townships Madrasah Competition
Soweto Muslim Association NPC (SMA), the custodian of Masjid ul Ummah, located in the heart of Soweto, Dlamini, is a powerful symbol of faith, perseverance, and community building. It was founded by Sheik Ali Zhange, who reverted to Islam in 1969. SMA was established in 1973 during the height of apartheid. It stands as the first indigenous association that built the 1st Mosque in a township to serve the growing Muslim community.
This competition not only highlights the intellectual and spiritual growth of townships madrasah
students but also pays tribute to their resilience and commitment to preserving Islamic values and education in challenging environments.
The event promises an inspiring weekend filled with engaging recitations, speeches, and cultural exchange, creating a platform for fostering unity among South African Muslims.
