What we know about the victims and the shooter at attempted Trump assassination in Pa.

View descriptionShare

In the wake of the tragedy at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, we wanted to try to bring you as much information as is known at this time about what happened yesterday evening and where the investigation stands today.

What began as a jubilant rally Saturday for Donald Trump just days before he becomes the official Republican presidential nominee  -- ended in mere minutes with the former president bloodied and a suspected would-be assassin shot dead by Secret Service.

Governor Josh Shapiro calls the assassination attempt unacceptable. He says the man who was killed at the rally was 50-year-old  Corey Comperatore of Sarver -- a husband, a father of two daughters, and a former fire department chief from Butler County.

The FBI says the man was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park -- which is in Allegheny County. Law enforcement officials tell The Associated Press bomb-making materials were found inside Crooks' vehicle and at his home.

Investigators say not long before shots rang out, rally goers noticed a man climbing to the top of a roof of a nearby building and warned local police.
