Heat wave welcomes 1st day of summer; High levels of dangerous PFAs chemicals in some Pa. schools' water

Some public spaces are promoting their air-conditioned environs as great places to escape this week’s intense heat wave.

For the first time, schools in Pennsylvania with onsite wells have been required to test their drinking water for PFAS. More than two dozen detected high levels of the toxic “forever” chemicals in their drinking water -- including seven in the midstate. 

A group in Cumberland County is working to get more people involved in caring for waterways. 

Central Pennsylvania is in the midst of a heat wave that could bring temperatures above 100 to the region over the weekend. Today marks the first day of summer and a heat advisory is in effect until eight Saturday evening.

Abortion rights supporters have found an unlikely champion in Pennsylvania -- Democratic U-S Senator Bob Casey.
