Woolworths delivers double-digit profit growth in SA, in tough macro-economic environment; SARS pursues Sasfin for billions in Gold Leaf Tobacco money laundering scandal

Woolworths SA’s CEO Roy Bagattini takes Bruce Whitfield through the company's annual results. The retailer reported strong growth with a 5.4% increase in turnover, driven by a standout performance in the Food business. Despite economic challenges, Woolworths SA is making progress against its strategies, supported by a bolstered balance sheet from the sale of David Jones. They plan to reinvest R10 billion over three years to accelerate growth initiatives.

 

Pauli Van Wyk, journalist with Scorpio at Daily Maverick on SARS  pursuing billions from Sasfin over a Gold Leaf Tobacco money laundering scandal. The revenue service alleges Sasfin Bank aided in moving R8.2 billion in untaxed funds out of the country with the help of 11 employees, despite warnings about lax controls.
