Through community-based auctions, the company facilitates the sale of second-hand goods, repossessed assets, and surplus equipment, creating a platform where individuals and small businesses can access affordable items and generate income from unused assets.

Africa Melane speaks to Ralph Mupita, chief executive of MTN Group, after the telecoms giant delivered a strong set of results for the 2025 financial year and surprised investors with a higher-than-expected dividend. The pan-African operator reported a rebound in profitability, supported by strong performances in key markets such as Nigeria and Ghana, rising data usage, and growth in its fintech services. The group declared a dividend of 500 cents per share and also outlined an evolved strategy focused on three core platforms connectivity, fintech and digital infrastructure as it looks to capture the next phase of digital growth across Africa

In other interviews, Reana Steyn, CEO of the National Financial Ombud Scheme talks about how artificial intelligence is beginning to affect dispute resolution in South Africa’s financial sector. The ombud’s office, which handles complaints related to banking, credit and insurance services, has recently warned that AI tools are being used by complainants to generate extremely long submissions, sometimes running to 150 pages and often citing fabricated legal cases that still have to be verified by investigators. The development is creating additional pressure on an office that already processes tens of thousands of consumer complaints each year while trying to maintain a fast and efficient resolution process.
