This follows reports that Saudi Aramco is offering oil buyers an alternative export route through the Red Sea port of Yanbu as disruptions threaten the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping chokepoints. We also look at how dependent South Africa is on imported fuel, with the country importing most of its crude oil and a significant share of refined petroleum products to meet domestic demand, and whether diversifying suppliers is realistically possible in the short term.
