Stephen Grootes speaks to Jashwin Baijoo, Partner and Head of Strategic Engagement & Compliance at Tax Consulting SA about SARS's growing scrutiny of social media influencers and content creators. With the tax authority formally recognising influencers as a distinct taxpayer segment, earnings from brand partnerships, sponsored posts and even free products or holidays received in exchange for promotional content could attract tax. What exactly must influencers declare, which business expenses can they claim, and how can they avoid falling foul of SARS?
