Stephen Grootes speaks to Nicolaas van der Wath, economist at the Bureau for Economic Research, about South Africa’s inflation expectations ahead of the Reserve Bank’s September interest-rate decision. Two-year-ahead inflation expectations fell to 3.8% in the third quarter from 3.9%, moving closer to the SARB’s 3% target and potentially giving policymakers more room to support an economy that contracted in the second quarter.
