In other interviews, Dr Thomas Funke, Chief Executive Officer at SA Canegrowers talks about the sugar industry’s concerns that retailers and food manufacturers are not honouring their commitment to source 95% of their sugar from South Africa. SA Canegrowers says local sugar sales have fallen by 20% compared with the average of the previous three seasons, despite sufficient local production to meet domestic demand, with imported sugar from countries such as Eswatini increasingly appearing on retail shelves.
