The government decided to cut back on emergency housing motels in Rotorua.
While contracts for seven motels are being extended until the end of next year - there's hope three could be dropped before then, as residents are prioritised for new Kāinga Ora homes.
Rotorua Mayor Tania Tapsell told Mike Hosking the current government was very clear in their election campaign that they needed to address it.
Tapsell said “Our community were expecting this to end in December. But we are realistic, people need to go somewhere.”
