Tama Potaka: Conservation Minister on the conservation law reform, plans to charge overseas visitors for access to certain sites

View descriptionShare

The Conservation Minister says there's huge opportunity for conservation land to generate the country more money.

A bill's been lodged, promising major reforms aimed at speeding up the DOC sign-off process for concessions on conservation land.

It would also see overseas visitors charged to visit certain sites – estimated to raise around $60 million a year to go to conservation.

Tama Potaka told Mike Hosking he's confident visitors are prepared to pay.

He says they've just started charging for a few carparks and made about $1.5 million for DOC.
