Donald Trump has edged ahead of Kamala Harris in the latest polls, with less than two weeks until the US election. 

A Wall Street Journal poll shows the Republican two points ahead of the Democrat – a direct swap from when they last did the poll in August. 

A CNBC poll also shows Trump ahead of Harris by two points. 

US correspondent Mitch McCann told Mike Hosking potential reasons behind this shift are Trump's negative ads and Harris having a couple of shaky media appearances. 

He says Barack Obama's former campaign manager David Axelrod described one of her answers in a CNN town hall as a word salad.

Relief for the Port of Tauranga as a long-awaited project gets the green light. 

The Government's approved the Stella Passage development under the fast-track to add to its container berths and wharves. 

Payments will be made to the local marae as part of cultural mitigation. 

Port CFO Simon Kebbell told Mike Hosking they're very grateful for the fast-track avenue. 

He says this is critical infrastructure for New Zealand and we can't spend seven years trying to get critical infrastructure over the line.

The regions are getting a boost, with the aim of enticing international visitors to stray from the golden route.  

The Government's putting $5 million into six campaigns to attract North American, Chinese, and Australian tourists to the regions at off-peak times.  

Tourism Minister Louise Upston says showcasing regional food, wine, and experiences spreads the benefits of tourism growth into more communities.  

Auckland Unlimited Destination Director Annie Dundas told Mike Hosking one of the biggest challenges is tourists sticking to the main destinations.  

She says it's an opportunity to show what's happening in other areas.
