Dr. Oliver Hartwich: New Zealand Initiative executive director backs ACT's "reset" of government agencies

View descriptionShare

A think tank leader believes the Act Party is asking a fair question of the public service.

It's promising a reset in government agencies, ending what it calls “race-based hiring” if re-elected.

The policy includes removing “good employer” requirements while also prohibiting agencies from resourcing any cultural or spiritual practices in the workplace.

New Zealand Initiative executive director Oliver Hartwich told Mike Hosking that Parliament's already written merits into the Public Service Act, yet departments are still pursuing the diversity agenda.

He says they can explain how much an individual ethnic group is paid,  yet Treasury can't say how many economists it employs - so there's still work to do.
