Not everyone in the industry is on board with the Government’s proposed building consents scheme. 

Businesses with a track record of delivering bigger projects, will be able to access streamlined consenting. 

Qualified tradespeople will be able to forego inspections for low risk builds through the opt in 'self-certification scheme'. 

Institute of Building Surveyors President David Clifton told Mike Hosking consents are there for a reason, as not all builders are perfect and there's still a high failure rate with consents. 

Clifton told Hosking we need to get our foundation right before moving forward on this. 

He says if we get our education, building and consenting processes right, then this can happen.

One of the greatest snow sport athletes of all time is heading to our shores this week. 

Shaun White is launching his new Snow League World Challenge at Cardrona this weekend, the event preceding the league's second season. 

The highly decorated snowboarder told Mike Hosking he's been coming to New Zealand for a long time, and so naturally, he had to bring the league here.  

"It's actually one of my favourite places to go," White said. 

"So when I was thinking about bringing my event, the Snow League, y'know, around the world, I was like, we have to stop in New Zealand." 

Snow League is something White's dreamed of doing since he was competing himself, and says it's been nice to be able to use his voice in the sport to make it better for everyone else.  

"I definitely don't think we're where we want to be – we're growing still, we're trying new things, and that's why we're so excited to come to New Zealand," he told Hosking. 

"But the future is looking bright."

There's a view friction will linger in the United Kingdom as the leaders from Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland want out.  

The three first ministers have signed an agreement overnight, declaring no Westminister government has the right to block democracy. 

It's the first time they've shared the stance since the UK devolution began, with Scotland and Northern Ireland calling for referendums.  

King's College European Politics and Foreign Affairs Professor Anand Menon told Mike Hosking these political parties benefit when there's tension with London.  

He expects the rumbling of discontent to continue as long as this persists, as the leaders opt for political gains.
